    What the hell?

I just got a HDMI cable so that I can finally play my BlueRay movies and get HD quality in games. I pop in a BlueRay/Game cd in, the screen turns black, and than.............. STATIC SCREEN ...........

After i got this screen, i checked on line and troubleshooting about this wierd phenomenon, but i couldn't find a solution

    WHAT'S UP??

Plug in your own standard cables again, go into video settings and set it for HDMI, and enable sound via HDMI as well, also select whatever HD resolution your TV displays. Good to go.

Pretty much. Once you confirm it to HDMI video the screen will go blank because it won't be accepting the red white yellow cords signal anymore, so then plug in the HDMI cable and it should work fine. So basically the moral is to look into your PS3's settings. :p

i'm confused on the right settings i should use in the Display Settings, the part about RGB and something about White colors or something. I have a 1080p HDTV, so, what settings i preferable?

select all inputs, 1080p, 1080i, 720p, etc.... The PS3 will automatically adjust to the highest resolution depending on the media/game you want to play. For example if a game can only go as high as 720p, thats what it will output to your tv, regardless of if you have a 1080p tv. Dont select 720p and you will get a 480i/p image and you dont want that

so,is what Zenien about taking the HDMI cable out, put in the standard cable, set ps3 to hdmi and stuff. and then plug in the HDMI cable, that SHOULD fix that static screen?

yes it should but make sure you select all possible video inputs that your tv can accept, not just 1080p bc not all, well most of what you will play on it will not be 1080p, unless your strictly using the PS3 for BR

you know what. I pop in Superman Returns BlueRay into the PS3, i have the HDMI cable all set up. I don't see the HD quaility that i'm looking for??? I mean, i see some HD during the Daily Planet scenes because it's much brighter.

I pop in Knocked Up DVD in the ps3, and it looks great, and it's not even a BlueRay or HD-DVD. So, i'm like...... ok, if a regular DVD is inserted in any BlueRay or HD-DVD player with HDMI set up, it will look Awesome.

    so, basically two questions:
    1) Anybody notice that the Superman Returns HD transfer isn't that great

    2) Any example of showing me where a DVD in a PS3/HD player/BlueRay player, with HDMI setup, looks different from a HDDVD/BlueRay image?

SR transfer is amazing on mine, and I'm watching it in 1080p on a 40" screen.

The never ending complicated mess that is HD TVs continues. Did you run Avia? Or Digital Video Essentials? Those are calibration discs for your HD TV. THings aren't going to looks nearly as good without calibrating the TV.

Amazon is always a good bet

I just bought DVE on Amazon UK and it was a little expensive for what it is but should be well worth it

I'm glad I don't have a HDTV the more I hear from their owners. It seems like such a hassle to get a good picture.
