Plot holes?

I LOVED this movie but something bothered me; If Thor was, I'm guessing a baby, when Odin fought the the Frost Giants on Viking lands, how did he ever become a Norse legend in the first place? He seems to be in his prime right about the time we meet him in modern times. There doesn't seem to be any major changes in the flow of time between Asgard & Earth. Furthermore, basic mythology reveals stuff about the Asgardians they don't even know themselves (Loki being a traitor and whatnot).

Also, they sPeak English. Fair enough, I guess a translation subplot would be a bit much.

Probally adventures he had that we didn't see. Remember when he brought up past battles/triumphs when trying to get the Warriors Three to join him after the Frost Giants attempted raid of the trophy room?

The Viking age was a fairly narrow period in the grand scheme of things and I think you've erred in saying "Viking lands". Norse mythology has been around a lot longer so it stands to reason that this movie's Thor and Loki were babies long before the Viking age.

I'm guessing you're asking how they age for the most part right?
As far as I understand the Asgardians grow faster as children than they age as adults. Thor in the movie is still a boy to his race.
The Viking era was hundreds of years ago, and hundreds of years in length. We did get a slight hint From the Warriors III that Thor probably snuck off to Earth as a late teen in our terms during the beginning of the viking era.

As I recall in the comics, Thor and Loki are each thousands of years old by our time. In the film it makes them both seem to be about 1000 years old. Not a big deal, IMO.

Don't you remember Fandral's comments about Thor going to Johunteim? He said something like "This isn't like going to earth, summoning some lightening, and having the mortals worship you as a God."

don't forget the ragnorok cycle. lol We don't know technically how old they are, or how many Ragnaroks they've been through.

Exactly the scene I was referring to. Thor in Viking myth is one of the oldest in their belief. I think even older to the German Vikings.

That could make sense, they should've put that scene in.

The Bifrost thing gets destroyed but I don't understand how Earth would be lost to them or why Thor couldn't get back. I'm pretty sure that Mjolnir can open portals thru space and time.

Thor hasn't figured that out yet.

I hope they add that in the next movie or Avengers, but, then having us trying to set up our own connection to them might be a good subplot, having mortals jump up our technology.

I think they may go that route to. I was telling my friend who saw it with me about Mjolnir's ability to do that and although he didn't know it could he said the same thing that Jane is probably going to find a way to open a wormhole. Although it would be a nice if they had her do that especially since the type of Dr she is was changed for the movie but. As far as I know Portman's not in the Avengers so I don't see it.

i've been saying this in the other threads about mjolnir opening portals. i figure odin never told thor or enabled it before since thor was still to headstrong. he would be rushing off to wherever just to fight. now that he is a changed man maybe odin will tell him about it. we do hear odin describe mjolnir as a weapon to destroy or a tool to build.

Mjolnir seems not as powerful as it is in the comics. No dimensional travel and what not.

I wouldn't put it past them. Jane IS being backed by SHIELD now. t: I'm also thinking PYM might help because of his use and knowledge of Space. You have to keep in mind Reed Richards won't be able to be used because of freakin Fox.

I swear Odin stuck his spear Gungnir into Heimdall's control stand instead of using Heimdall's sword. I'd have to watch the movie again to be sure. If that's the case you migh not need to fix the Observatory.

You're may be right. I think he did to, but then thinking about it I remember Odin pulling the sword out and throwing it to Heimdell. So was Odin not supposed to be able to do that? I don't read Thor comics, but I just assumed that he is the King and he would be able to operate it.

I felt that Mjolnir was handled properly from what ive seen of it in the comics despite the absence of the it's transportation abilities. Then again I guess if it can open portals then it's not as powerful as it should be.
