Poor, frozen Pluto

Like the guy said in the article, it's a farce and will not stand.
Me either.I guess its just the air of arrogance.Man-Thing said:...
I could care less about astronomy to be honest. I like to look at all the pretty pictures, I can point out all the major constalations ect, but I think this is just splitting hairs over a defenition.
To me the defenition of a planet should be: "A large sphereical object that orbits around the sun."
whereas the defentition of a moon should be: "A large sphereical object that orbits around a plant.
Sure, Pluto does have an oblong orbit, but it does orbit around the sun. It is sphereical, so it meets up with the defenition of what a planet should be. I don't really know why this declassifing of Pluto as a planet nerves me, but it does. I guess it's just the whole astronomers deciding the classification of things because they think they can.

I think what he meant is how fast they decided to change it. I think its dumb...Within a matter of week 4 planets were added or subtracted from our solar system!!!hippie_hunter said:This isn't the first time a planet has been demoted.
Ceres (discovered 1801), Pallas (discovered 1802), Juno (discovered 1804), and Vesta (discovered 1807) were considered planets until 1868 when they were demoted to asteroids because an infinite amount of asteroids were being discovered in the same location between Mars and Jupiter, from 1845 and all the way up to today.
The same thing has happened to Pluto (discovered 1930), scientists are discovering an infinite amount of objects past Neptune's orbit that have been discovered from 1992 and all the way up to today. What happened over 150 years ago has happened today and thus it needed fixing.

Its like theyre dying to just change the solar system. I hope they dont change it tomarrow![]()
No "planet" was added to the solar system?...The moon was concidered a planet for years, ceres, vesta, and juno. Sure it was a proposal, but it was an accepted one. They weren't officially added...not like in school textbooks or anything but they were still concidered planets back then.hippie_hunter said:Actually no planets were ever added to our solar system. It was only a proposal. And it wasn't a fast process. This debate has been going on for YEARS now and was especially heated up when 2003 UB13 was discovered. The only way a new planet will ever be added now is if they find something as big as Mercury and is not part of the Kuiper Belt.

it's against the rules.. You seem to use the word Gay as if it's something wrong, you are the one that needs to learn what derogatory meansSentinel X said:Learn the definition of derogatory okay?...Im so sorry for saying the word "gay" when referring to planets, that must of hurt A LOT of peoples feelings!!![]()
Oh and Im also sorry for mentioning that someone might be gay, because it is SUCH a bad thing to be gay, how insulting!! oh noes!!![]()

I think Ive read somewhere that people use to concider the moon and Earth a sort of binary planet system.hippie_hunter said:The proposal was never accepted. It got shot down right from the get-go.
The moon was never considered a planet.
Ceres, Vesta, Pallas, and Juno were considered planets and were put into books, pamphlets, and other publications as planets. Just like Pluto was, but over time astronomers discovered dozens similar objects between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Hence why they were demoted from planets to mere asteroids. Ceres has recently been promoted to dwarf planet status.
What happened to Ceres, Vesta, Pallas, and Juno has now happened to Pluto. It is going to stay that way.

As I said they werent totally official but they were concidered planets anyhow.
Man-Thing said:I don't really care...
I just don't think these astronomers have any grounds on declassifiying pluto as being a planet. They aren't the rulers of the galaxy. I don't care if they are "scientist", they still don't have the authority to do this.
Aww, that's so cutekakarot069 said:this really sucks... I grew up with Pluto as a planet, and nothing or no one is gonna tell me otherwise that there isn't a planet out there with an irregular orbit around our sun.
I dont care what those scientists say... Pluto will always exist to me.

I say they make a new spin-off Sailor Moon series about the Sailors who represent the dwarf planets: Sailor Pluto, Sailor Ceres, and Sailor UB313.Kmack said:Save Our Sailor![]()
I dont think you understand were Im coming from, there wasnt really a solid definition for planets...it has fluncuated many times. Even though the period of being a planet might have been short, they were still planet since the definition wasnt really true. I know planets have been demoted before, I may not know much about astronomical history cause I freakin hate history, but I know planets were demoted.hippie_hunter said:No, Ceres, Vesta, Pallas, and Juno were official planets until they were demoted in 1868. This is not the first time an official planet has been demoted to something lesser.
