This is one of the favoured bogeymen of the right, who like to blame a great deal of our problems on "political correctness". My favourite is when right-wing pundits argue that we could prevent terrorism and crime through racial profiling, but because of PC liberal values we don't - and that's how the terrorists win!
I can't remember who it was, but some right-wing radio host was complaining about how political correctness stops people from making racist jokes at work. Rather than him being a jerk, the problem is everyone else who thinks he's a jerk for making a racist joke. They're just too "PC".
So what are your thoughts on the conservative depiction of political correctness? Do you, like them, feel that people's thoughts are being policed? Or is this just common decency for a more enlightened age?
