Comics Potential Spider-Man/Civil War SPOILERS!!!!

Anyone who has followed comics knows that covers don't mean anything at all.

I know that...but I still jump to conclusions. I know it's illogical.

Has anyone considered that this may be fan artwork, it's good, but not professional good, and if MJ was gonna die they'd put in a more detailed cover. And hey if she does die don't worry... they'll bring her back in some horrible story that drags her name in the mud and it turns out she had an affair with Eddie Brock shortly before she died. Just like poor Gwen Stacy, that way we'll be glad she's dead. I hope they don't kill her, if anyone it's May's time to go, now that she's known Peter's secret for awhile.

It does look like it comes from "Spider-Man: Reign", same motif as the other covers shown. I just googled it and took a look at the other artwork. JQ prolly released the gravestone pic just because it is his favorite and his not-so-secret wish for current continuity.

wow this is just absolute madness. Killing Mary Jane? Peter's driving force? His true love? The very reason how he managed to dig himself out of the grave that Kraven burried him into? Ok Marvel, you got balls. My question is, does Stan Lee sign off on all of this craziness?

so, what part of "Spider-Man: Reign" dont you guys understand?

Do the words "Spider-Man: Reign" mean nothing? People need to chill out and stop jumping to conclusions.

Dude....we all knwo that it is probably just artwork from "Spider-Man: Reign". We get that. Still, it's Marvel. Usually, jumping to conclusions, no matter how improbable or stupid the outcome can be, is usually the way to go regarding Marvel....especially when Spidey is concerned. "Sins Past", "The Other", "Iron Spidey", "Unmasked".....we all tried to look for a sliver of hope and tried not to jump to conclusions on these, but they ended up just as bad as they initially appeared.

I'm fairly certain that this is from Spider-Man: Reign, but I'm preparing for the worst...especially seeing as how that's what we tend to get, nowadays.

:( :( :(

Good point, because we've been wrong all the other times, right?

You guys that say wait it out and see what happens are morons. I've heard that a thousand times on this board and you've NEVER been right.

If it is from Reign, then great. If not, I'll be back here to cram it down your throats. Again.

It's amazing, after all the changes, people are still willing to "wait and see"....amazing. I'm no longer buying ASM nor FNSM, and SSM is just shy of getting cut from my list....I'm done with the "waiting".

Probably the same people that still wanna "wait & see" how Bush will do in office.

:D HAHAHA.

:( Spidey's dead.

I'm not sure how we can't brace ourselves for the worse?.....you have 3 or more years of history to defend your negative view....but even more than that...you have a current arc "Civil War" (which I enjoy), in which Spider-man unmasks voluntarily..(and I don't want to get into whether it's in or out of character).....

What purpose does Spidey unmasking serve, if no-one close to him dies?...what's the purpose of having Spidey out himself, when there are far better and closer to the character ways of doing it involuntarily?

Marvel needed Pete to Unmask voluntarily because the alternative would lessen the guilt he felt for the death that will likely materialize during the arc......

...make no mistake about it...Someone's dying...and it's either Aunt May or MJ.....I hope I'm proven wrong.

Considering MJ is the last vestige left of Spidey still being the same character, if she does in fact die, then he will no longer be the same character.

Joe Q would probably have him start sleeping with Aunt May after that. :(

Precisely. If Peter's actions don't result in a major death, then there will be no lesson for him, or the other heroes, to learn.

I imagine MJ and/or Aunt May will die as a result of Peter's unmasking, and it will cause the heroes to throw down their swords and ignore the registration act.

I think some kind of tragedy is predictable... BUT, the day either one of those DEATHS occur, I will TEAR my comic into tiny little pieces and mail them back to Marvel, along with a scathing letter that renounces my support of the character.

Make sure you post a pic of the ripped up comic when (not if) it happens. :)

That just means it'll probably happen, you know that, right? :(

Which doesn't really make any sense. The registration act doesn't require the hero's identities to be general public knowledge; only that they be registered with the government. So Pete's public unmasking was solely his own action, and doesn't make a very good rallying point for the anti-registration crowd.

Not that it won't be, it just doesn't make much sense. But what does at Marvel nowadays?

True, but once the knowledge is out there, it's just a matter of time before it ends up in the wrong hands....and the fate of Peter and his loved ones would mirror the potential fate of the rest of the heroes and their loved ones.

I know some of you are worried about Mary Jane's fate and possible death (as am I) but that cover page is clearly from Spider-Man: Reign which I wouldn't be surprised does depict a future where Mary Jane died. Besides, have people forgotten the November solicits for Sensational Spider-Man which show Mary Jane alive and in a story that apparently takes place after Civil War? Not to mention, considering how much Joe Q argued to the point that he doesn't want Spider-Man any older than he already is--which is why he doesn't like the marriage to begin with--and that making him a widower would make him appear OLDER not YOUNGER (besides, Marvel went this route before and paid for it severely). Granted, Marvel has done stupid things before, but I think cooler heads need to prevail. For all we know, this guy posted this image knowing full well that we'd blow a gasket and probably thinking we'd wouldn't be smart enough to recognize the artwork comes from a series that is in no way connected with Civil War other than it features Spider-Man and is published by Marvel.

True on all counts....however, it's hard for me to be optimistic when it comes to Marvel and Spider-Man....:(

No kidding. However, my optimism comes from the hope that when Marvel eventually falls flat on it's face due to the ramifications of the Spider-Man Unmasking storyline and find themselves in another crisis of their own making once again--just like the Clone Saga--someone will finally have the courage to toss out Joe Q and his Hollywood buddies, and Dan Slott becomes the new Editor-In-Chief at Marvel and places Roger Stern as Editor of the Spider-Man titles, all with Stan Lee's approval of course.

*sniffle* I long to live in that world....:(
