Prayers finally answered: Mattel--6 INCH Batman movie figures...6 INCHES!!!

:D :D :D Sweet Mother O' Mercy Mattel finally, FINALLY got their heads outta their arses and are going to be making 6-inch action figures based on the upcoming Batman: The Dark Knight movie as well as apparently making figures from previous Batman movies.

I can't even tell you how elated I am right now! The 4 inch figures from Batman Begins (and Superman as well) were easily some of the worst toys based off of a film...they were on par with stuff from 1989, no excuse for the travesty that was the Batman Beings toy line. Such a beautiful film that deserved proper merchandise off of it.

Check out this link and a rep from Mattel confirms it. I am just so darned impatient and wanna know fine details now dag-nammit! Or better yet pics :)

Oddly I only want a James Gordon, Harvey Dent and Alfred movie figure. Are they coming out?
 
Haven't we already seen pics of the Batman one?

Or are they making figures of all the characters?
 
The Begins toys (aside from the silly variants like Hover Claw Batman and so on) weren't -that- bad and were certainly nowhere near the level or crap that Toy Biz dumped on us in 1989. Sure they were pretty simple and the same body was used for 3 characters, but they were intended to be crammed into toy Batmobiles and thrown across living rooms by youngsters.

Anyway, as Mr. LOL brought up in his "Action Figure SCOOP" thread a few weeks ago, yeah, we'll be getting 6 inch figures sculpted by the Four Horseman -as well as- the regular 5.5 inch figures like we had with Begins. Apparently any playsets and vehicles will only be included in the 5.5 inch line since its aimed at kids.
 
lets hope these ones don't use lead in the paint like the rest of the mattel toy line. A new recall everyday!

Did DC Direct ever make figures for Begins other than the large 30 inch or whatever Batman figure and the Busts?

as much as i want a badass 6 inch dark knight joker and batman, this is the part that really catches my attention. could i possibly get a 6 inch, detailed keaton batman figure? :wow:

What thread was this? On THIS board or...? Who is Mr. LOL? Does he have inside info on this stuff?

I am reeeeaaaaallly wanting to find out more about this line of toys. I don't understand why they are making a 5.5 inch line and then a 6 inch line...juuust make the 6 inch line and IF the kids don't find those cool (which I find hard to believe considering the Four Horseman are fantastic and collectors and kids love their stuff) make a dinky 3 inch line or something.

Either way I'm TOTALLY with a Keaton figure...sweet mother o' geezus I have been wanting figures from the Tim Burton epic for suuuch a long time:

i took this as "will they be releasing the TDK figure in the same scale as the previously released batman films?". arent the BB figures the same scale as the kenner figures? anyways, i hope im wrong, i hope they do mean that they are making figures from older batman films cuz that would ROCK! detailed keaton batman from both B89 and Returns, and detailed Joker, Penguin and Catwoman, that would be just too friggin awsome man!! but i dont get the response. they didnt say "no we are not going to be making older batman film toys", but they didnt say "we ARE making them", so i dont quite know what to think, but for now im not gonna raise my hopes for this. expect a few surprises and some old friends....hmmm...my guess is its something to do with TDK, not previously released batman films.


im just pissed we never got a proper devito Penguin. my god, he is so action figure worthy. closest we ever got was the BTAS penguin, but thats it. i want a proper Returns Penguin fo sho. why dont they just make a line based off of the 2 burton films? obviously they are still popular with fans and it would make a decent amount of money from collectors, but we've only gotten B89 and Returns lego figures, those kubrick things. cool, but i want REAL figures not lego's.

the only thing i liked about the toybiz line for B89 was the batwing. it looked right on with the movie batwing and when you take out the silly orange suction cup darts, it looks pretty accurate. but the batmobile was stupid, it had no hood! bleh. so glad kenner took over the line aftewards and gave us some REAL batman movie goodies with more accurate sculpts. the Returns Batmissle Batmobile is a piece of artwork in plastic, dead on to the burton batmobile. *drools*

And Google....you think YOU were pissed about not getting a proper Penguin/Devito Returns figure? Try this on for size..

When the Returns figures came out I was sooo pissed to discover that there wasn't (at first at least) a damn Catwoman figure seeing as how she was one of the main villains. However when I was on a trip to the states with my folks I found some Batman Returns cereal and on the back it showed a Catwoman figure I went nuts! Then I ended up finding her and was in Heaven!

..however that ridiculous....flippin' Penguin figure! I lied to myself numerous times saying "Ohh he's from the movie he's not just a repainted Super Powers Penguin....he's not just a repainted..." until I went nuts wondering what Kenners rationale for this was.
Then my brother...my OWN brother of all people came up to me one day and said "Hey...you'll never guess what I saw a commercial for last night....Batman Returns MOVIE based figures" to which my eyes lit up with excitement and I said "..what? You mean like movie accurate figures?!..not the garbage Kenner put out?!" and he said "Yep...there's the Penguin in his tux with those weird hands, the one in his white pajamas with ducky umbrella..a new Batman and Catwoman with silver marks on her costume JUST like in the movie!"

...I stayed up for a few nights in a row with my brother waiting...wondering when the commercial would come on. Then I slowly started to realize that the odds of seeing these 'movie accurate' Batman figures would never materialize...I mean, WHY would Kenner put a commercial on the UPN Network at midnight while 'Honeymooners' was on?

Still...I tried to hold on, and pissed off every employee at Toys 'R' Us calling every day (sometimes twice) asking for 'movie accurate' Batman figures...not the stuff that they had tons of...but MOVIE accurate.
I learned just how evil my brother could be that year. Bastard!
 
They said nothing about figures from the previous films. They were asking Mattel if the TDK figures would be in scale with toys from previous Batman films. That's all.

Mattel wont make figures based on previous films, they just wont as much as fans want it thats all it is, a fan wish.

Theres simply not enough money in it, children dont care for them and you have to remember that the toys are just that, aimed primarily at children.

If you want a figure of keaton as Batman, Nicholson as Napier then beg DC Direct because if were all honest we know it just aint gonna happen from Mattel.

For Mattel to make a Keaton Batman line it's just too much of a risk for them.

Cinematique should get rights to make figures of Keaton and Nicholson. But it would kill my wallet.

Yeah i've thought the same, i'd want it, the Indiana Jones is amazing. But on the other hand i hope they dont, i'd want it too much and as you said it would kill my wallet.
 
Lol yeah, and they're like the biggest figures I've ever seen. Their Captain Jack was astounding. They only make them in 5 or 6 figure area so they wouldn't have to worry about losing money because people won't buy them all either.

So according to that, there's a chance for figures from Begins, but nothing about the Burton/Schumacher series. I guess its just depends on the definition of "previous films"; Begins = possible, Burton/Schumacher = Mattel didn't say a thing, and its unlikely IMO.

He means figures as im money, there very very expensive, like a little waxwork in your home.
