What position will it enter the top 250 and what score will it have?

This time next year what score and position will it have?

It started with 9.5 from only 300 votes, then 9.2 with 1900 votes and currently has 9.2 from 2500 votes

Will it still be above 9 after 10,000 votes have been cast?

Discuss :yay:

Na, as much as I am looking forward to it, I don´t think it will hold that position.
My guess is that it´s going to be somewhere between 8 and 9, but I will gladly eat crow if the score is higher :)

The IMDB score is constantly changing. It can't really be "predicted"... it will be considerably high to start with much like most films. I wouldn't be surprised if it pulled a Dark Knight and became the top of the 250 before others get together and knock it down.

I would like to see it knock Shawshank off its perch, even if only for a few weeks or so

Always saddens me to see that over rated film sitting above Godfather as best movie of all time

I really liked that movie :)
Many people (obvsly) do, but in fact I know no one who says it´s his favourite. It is not a hype movie, that means there are not as much haters who will vote it down on principle. And it is not a blockbuster, so critics are fine with it, too.

Avengers does not have that benefit, but if it is a genuinely good movie, it will do well...

btw I just scrolled the top 250 list for fun. Really didn´t expect to see Sin City There (but hey, great!)

The Avengers' IMDB score is being gamed by people from the TDKR board who are voting "1" on its rankings. They have an active campaign to lower the film's score, by people who haven't even seen it. That's why it dropped from 9.5 to 9.2 so rapidly.

Shawshank's not bad, but I will never get people's crazy obsession over it. It's a well-acted, well-crafted, utterly predictable, maudlin, slow moving melodrama. I thought it was fairly enjoyable to watch but ultimately pretty forgettable.

Anyway, I think Avengers has a shot at top 250. Shortly after its release, Serenity snuck in there for a while with I think an 8.1 or 8.2, before settling down to a still very solid 7.9.

I hate people who actively sabotaging scores for a movie they haven't even seen yet. A bunch of juveniles.

I haven't looked at the score since this morning, but 100 scores of "1" suddenly appeared after the threads urging people to downrate The Avengers were posted. That is no coincidence, particularly when you consider that the film has not even opened to the general public yet.

The lowest score I have ever give to a film I think was something like Mortal Kombat 2 and I give it 4/10

I have never give a film 1 on IMDB, even the films I think are way over rated.

Shawshank I gave 8 and Dark Knight I gave 7, I think they are over rated but still good films.

So you want us to predict how hard the trolls are going to strike?

Because that's all a movie's IMDB score means for the first few months

I also hate people who give out 10's without even seeing the movie. TDK is a perfect example of that (tons of 10's without seeing it), and I wouldn't be surprised if it's happening for Avengers too.

Several thousand people, including me and others on this forum, have actually seen The Avengers. The 2,500+ votes posted thus far isn't an excessive number since many of those who got tickets are Internet savvy and frequent movie sites and forums.

The percentage of people on the planet who use the Internet and also vote on IMDB is pretty small. But you are right it's not an "excessive" number. My point was merely that the vote rigging goes in both directions. I would bet by the time the film comes out, those kind of votes lean more towards positive than negative.

I'm not used to the IMDB score thing. Are the votes from everyone or just main critics and whatnot?

If it's from everyone I see this movie hitting at 9 or 8 at worst.

It's from anyone who signs up for an account on there. If it is as good as promised by early reviews, I think it has a good shot to finish with a 8.5 or higher on there.

I saw that over there but I refuse to play that game. Obviously, I'm more of a Marvel fan but I'm not going to vote TDKR down no matter how disappointing it turns out to be. I'd rather be "pro" Avengers and use my energy and time that way then be "anti" anything.

Still, it is a factor and will be all the way through. Frankly, I visit IMDB often and the Nolanites of the world are a factor in all the Marvel films. They've been bashing Cap & Thor and have been bashing Marvel since 2008. It's what they do. They're a paranoid and rabid fan base but they are consistent. You just have to factor it in and live with it.

Why do you think Cap is slipping to 6.8 even months after it's release on DVD? Recent days the Nolan Nation has been on the attack.

Now has 9.1 from 3000 votes

It has an average of 9.3 but the complicated formula IMDB use gives it weighted average of 9.1

Other films actually have their score INCREASED

I really would like to know what formula they use. as it seems one law for one film, one law for another film

7.9

Haters and trolls will knock it down eventually.

Seems like they have something in the formula that is heavily biased towards older movies. So if Movie A was released in 1940 and has a 8.5 while Movie B was released in 2012 and has a 8.5, Movie A will be adjusted above 8.5 while Movie B will be adjusted below 8.5. I also remember reading that they adjust for 1's. Godfather has an actual average of 8.8, but an adjusted average of 9.2 after they take out some of the 1's and factor in how old it is. A lot of those 1's were given by TDK fans in 2008 as an attempt to keep TDK above it on the Top 250 list.

I was just comparing what % of 1s certain films get

Most get around 2%, some little higher, some little lower, so it all evens out really in the end

Godfather though has almost 5% and I know that a great proportion of those 1s come from Shawshank fanboys

Also Seven Samurai has 5% of 1s ??? IMDB is full of morons

9.1 from 3500 voters now

wonder if it might jump up to 9.2 again once a few thousand votes flood in once released?

I´d say so, since so many fans are going to see it on opening weekend.

Eh. The scores usually end up balancing out. The unwarranted
1s & 10s end up canceling each other out. I'm not meaning all 10s are fake though.
1s? Man, get outta here with all that! I can't think of one movie I hate that much.
Maybe 'Meet the Spartans'.
