Some of you might remember me from the spiderman threads awhile back. Well, I have moved on from creating replica costumes, but I'm now pursuing a BFA in painting at Savannah College of Art and Design.

I've now got an modern oil painting in a online competition. Basically theres a online voting contest before the actual judging of art takes place. The top 5 submissions with the highest amount of votes gets analyzed by a panel of judges at the end. The winner of that receives $10,000, a macbook pro, and a gallery show in Santa Monica, California.

Were only allowed to see how many votes our own entry has, so I have no idea how many votes I need to win. I do know that you can vote once a day, per email though.. so I'm sure some tomfoolery will be going on.

Voting ends on June 10th, and you can vote once a day with as many emails as you want. Obviously you don't have to vote once a day...but i'd appreciate it :)

The way voting works is VERY IMPORTANT you go to my submission, enter your email address and then vote. You will get a confirmation email. YOU MUST CLICK THE CONFIRM LINK IN THE EMAIL AND VOTE AGAIN to be counted. Once you have confirmed it once you can vote once a day with that email address.

Here is the link to my submission:

I hope this isn't against any forum rules... if so, no hard feelings if it gets removed, but mods feel free to look the other way

Actually your entry is here: http://www.artlastudents.com/index.cfm/search/detail/entry/1569

:yay:

Being someone who considered studying fine art in the past, I looked through many of the entries and.....most of them aren't very good. :o Yes, it is possible to tell whether someone is exploring a Picasso-esque style or whether they plain just don't know how to draw. :oldrazz: There are a few gems in each category, but I'd put most of the entries in the latter. :o

Yet it's very difficult to browse entries - the thumbnails are TINY and they put most of the focus on the students. So I completely expect this to be a popularity contest and not much more, unfortunately. So don't get too down if you don't win. I think your entry is beautiful and deserves to be in a gallery. :yay:

I was never too keen on the fine art world to begin with, but the best advice I can give is to make as many connections as you can, and show your work in as many venues as possible to get yourself out there. Sometimes this doesn't mean a dedicated hoity toity fine art gallery - I think some of the more casual hipster ones have a lot of merit, and more importantly, they take submissions.
