Well, to be honest, "KISS" mostly sang about getting laid and breaking free and having good times, not being a thug and carrying guns around. To push it even further, lead members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley NEVER did drugs or drank alcohol, and still don't to this day. I'll give you Smashing Pumpkins and Limp Bizkit though.........

Fair point, but I just find it odd that musicians (what's this, an indie fan referring to rappers as musicians?!) would choose the most ridiculous monikers for those to refer to them by, as opposed to band members, who for the most part are referred to by name (I know there are exceptions, Tre Cool springs to mind).

It's just one of those things that always struck me as odd.

It's a tendency, not an absolute.

It is well known that boys that grow up without a father in the home are more prone to psychological and sociological problems of all kinds.

I used to like rap music but now I mostly hate it. Most of it is degrading to women and black people in general. I wish most of it would go away.

On another note: I thought that K-West was different but he turned out to be the same selfish bastard (I would put the N-word but some people might be offended) as the rest of em. I hope more and more of these idiots are killed, they are the last thing that black people need.

It's a thing that came, to a large extent, from punk culture. Punk and hip-hop were closely tied in the early days, since the people in the movements liked each other's music and neither genre was really socially acceptable in the early days. Punks have had strange nicknames from the beginning...Johnny Rotten, Sid Vicious, Iggy Pop, and Richard Hell leap immediately to mind.
