I can't believe there are still people who get taught and believe it was "just the South"...actually the irony was in some respects the South was better because they don't lie about it afterwards.

Yes you would...actually Pennsyvania lynchings were horrible, so were Ohio...and New York, that city had more racial discrimination than Boston (which was horrible too). You're just a product of our awful education system.

Not gonna dispute that the really makes me sad, yet look at the conditions that create such anger, look at what's going on now with the mexican community (albeit illegal)

Its actually somewhat the fault of poor planning with integration on the part of our Government. Harlem used to be a black paradise, people used to leave their doors unlocked. However after integrations, since the politicians never bothered to attempt to develop those areas, all the proficient African Americans doctors, lawyers and business people who had thriving businesses there packed up and moved into white neighborhoods. Leaving the poor behind.

If a person riots and damages his community, it is his fault. It's not anybody else's and it doesn't really matter the reason behind because those reasons can be created on a whim and there are always other options that can be taken. For example, if a cop shoots a black man because the black man proved himself a danger (and I'm not saying that there haven't been unfair shootins, but those are not typical) the answer is to keep pushing the bureaucracy for the justice, not destroy your community because the only ones that will suffer from that destruction are you and your neighbours.

Governments might be slow in doing things, but even they can't resist constant pressure.

Right you are to a certain extent.Thing you add in the fact that at the time (and still today) most banks would not approve blacks for business loans to rebuild the economy within the community and those businesses that did where to prey on and feed the people alcohol and pawnshops to keep them in dept.

It's not a racial thing. Banks want to make money and green doesn't know any colour.

When banks evaluate loans, it's purely based on the odds of getting that loan repaid in full and the likelyhood success of that business.

I have to agree on that issue, if only that I really hate some of the self destruction we inflict on ourselves. Yet you cannot deny the root of the problem.

and the Mexican community, because of its unwillingness to cooperate on a sincere solution, except for absolute amnesty for all current and future illegals is sowing the seeds for the same kind of conditions that afflicted the Black community.

One thing I've learned in life, and I have personal experience of abuse from society, is that it doesn't really matter what somebody else has done to you, you are still responsible for your life and how you live it. Society can't do a better job of keeping you down than your own actions.

I'm not trying to laugh at you WL this is a really good debate and I like that the discussion has been pretty civil so far, but man you don't have a clue.I'm a career soldier, with no priors and good credit, yet I still had problems to get my bank (my bank!) of the last 15 yrs. to give me a loan to buy my home and I still had to pay absorbently high closing cost. Trust I did my research and compared my situation to others in a similair sircumstance and I was not treated fairly.

It's not you as an individual, it's also your credit history. If you have none and nobody to co-sign, you're at a disadvantage regardless of who you are. The first thing I had to do is get a credit card, once I had that, I was able to develop a credit history, which when it comes time to get a serious loan, I hope that it will prove advantageous to me.
