What do you guys think of PS3 games in 3D? Do you think it will work?

I don't really care for 3D I hope its just a fad and dies a violent death.

I think it's more along the lines of a 3D effect that makes things look more in depth like Coraline than the traditional pop out at you 3D that we see everywhere else that is incredibly cheesy.

Personally I don't think this will work because that will mean we all have to get new TVs. And let me tell you, I just got my TV two years ago, I'm not buying a new one anytime soon. And many others will have this mentality with the rise of HD.

Like a rational human being, I will wait until I try it (or at LEAST until I read legit reviews) before I judge.

Yeah i hope you don't have to buy a Sony TV to play in 3D because that would be just stupid.

No, I doubt there will be a need for new TV's.

They'll probably just give us some hideously, uncomfortable glasses.

3d gaming gets old pretty fast.
After about a month or so I got bored of it and went back to regular bog standard gaming.
Edit: I take that back, anaglyph gets old fast, stereoscopic 3d is awsome.

PS3's using the 3D FW have to be used with a new 3D capable TV. You cannot play a game in 3D without the TV. I am with Hunter, I just bought an HDTV 2 1/2 years ago. I am not buying a new one anytime soon.

So, wait, are you just asking or are they really talking about 3D games?

They are.

I believe Avatar, the videogame based on the movie, will be using 3D technology through the use of glasses or some ****.

From the reports I've heard from different podcasts...it seems to be a failing experiment. They might need to actually rework the animations and the frames per second, and just get grittier with the nuts and bolts if it's going to ever be a viable way to play videogames.

Or, so that's what I've heard.

Now that you mention it, I've heard that. I think Avatar will need to have a 3D capable TV along with the glasses I've heard about as well.

*Sigh*

*Incredible Hulk walking away sequence*

The sooner 3D TV's come out, the sooner their price will start to fall, the more affordable they'll be when it's time to get a new TV.

The problem i see with Sony using 3D is the all "buy a new TV" angle.
No one will buy one, unless you are swimming in money.

Toss 3D gaming in the pile with going digital download only of fads that are getting pushed before their time. Just as not everyone has internet, not everyone is even willing to get an HDTV, let alone the more expensive upgrade after it. Eventually 3D gaming may work, but IMO it's just too soon.

I think prolonged 3D gaming would probably give your eyes a beating, and leave you with a headache. I'd rather just stick to our current model until better tech comes out where it can be implemented right, rather than taking baby steps up. Hell, just skip all the incremental TV upgrades and give me mini holographic projectors....and while I'm making demands, get on the ball Japan and release sexy realistic looking robot maids already!

Yeah, giving us the mini holographic projectors is probably what it would take for this to become a huge deal.

It's gotta live up to our Sci-Fi movie fantasies. Has to.

so you want to wait over 20 years to see stuff in 3D then?

But i got to admit it would be pretty fun playing a game like Uncharted or MW2

this video pretty much explains how the PS3s 3D is going to work. it'll be able to send the data to TVs with the right flags and multiplexing but it'll be only at around 720p for each view. the same must be true for it's playback of bluray 3D. so you can watch a film in 1080p in 2D or 720p 3D from a bluray 3D disc.

720p 3D actually has a similar level of effective detail to 1080p but isn't as good as 1080p 3D.

3D will not work at this point.
It´s not a fad, and it´s here to stay, but it needs to evolve.
If many people say that 3D gives them a headheach, many say they have them when watching Avatar, now image playing a video game, where you need to close follow characters jumping, shooting and whatnot.
Many say the get headheaches after playing 3D on the PC, so...
Besides, imo, 3D in gaming will only be meaningful without the glasses, something i´m expecting to see with Project Natal, not because it´s MS and all that crap, but because Johnny Lee, the man that made 3D with the Wii without glasses is working on it (but Greenberg already said that MS is not thinking about 3D at this point).

Now, on the Youtube video posted above...
Nothing changes, you still need to get a new TV, one with HDMI 1.4.

But the point is only one, sooner than later, all consoles will have 3D, not just the PS3, and with the 3D Over HDMI enabled by HDMI 1.4, the only one that can´t do it is the Wii (because doesn´t have HDMI).
