Sony’s typical strategies aren’t cut out for a new technology like this that needs wide adoption first before trying to carve out any of the pie as exclusive. I’m massively interested in VR but there are too many options and you need multiple setups to be able to play all the VR games. That strategy works on (non-VR) console gaming as console gaming is already huge and established with reliable revenue every year. Fragmenting something that hasn’t yet made it is not the best move IMO.

I don't know how could Sony salvage this. Analysts suggest that they should lower their price, but how is Sony even gonna earn a profit when the newly launched accessory is already struggling just with pre orders and early sales.

There isn't a big Sony VR game that we know is coming. Horizon VR didn't do wonders. While the Resident Evil VR option for RE8/RE4R is merely an extra option for those who want to play the game in VR.

Hopefully Sony can end supporting VR2 by next year and use those resources to develop and grow new ips

NeXt year is a bit early, but I can see them dropping it quietly like the PsVita in 3 to 5 years.

Does anyone here have PSVR, or used it all? Just wondering how good quality the VR is and how easy to use it is.

I use it for VR games, non-VR games, and simply watching TV shows and movies.

I rarely play games through the TV anymore. I opt for the big screen experience which can often trick my mind into making me think that I’m actually inside the game’s world; especially open world games.

It was really surreal playing robocop with basically having a robohelmet on lol.

It’s a meditative or zen like experience being able to become completely engulfed in it. Almost like Daredevil’s bed that drains everything from the outside world out. It’s peaceful bliss.

Haha, that sounds like the right way to play Robocop, get some armour on too to complete the look. :cwink:

Thanks for the feedback.

I think its still too early for VR to really establish itself in the Mainstream.
For most its still just a gimmick.

But im not sure that scaling back the investment is the right thing to do.
You gotta invest more time and money if you want it to be more than a gimmick, scaling back is not helping.

The Batman Arkham Shadows thing is a good example how VR is not there yet.
If that would have been not a VR game and instead a Third person game...the reactions would have been so much bigger and different.

The best PS VR title is still Blood and Truth.

I have no idea why there haven’t been follow ups close to that since then.

Doesn’t help that Occulus runs a freaking monopoly on VR seemingly. Those games should never have been exclusives (Marvel What If, Batman).

The end is nigh.
I love the idea of VR but it never felt like it was time to jump in yet.

This is a major setback and I feel sorry for anyone who bought one recently that won't be getting the expected amount of support for an expensive device.

I'd say VR is definitely niche rather than a gimmick. The main market for VR is PC.

I think Sony needed a game like HL: Alyx but instead they made that Horizon VR game and, while it's a beautiful game, it's a mediocre VR experience based on the reviews. I reckon if you ask PSVR users what would be the best games to experience VR, they'd answer RE7/RE8 or even Gran Turismo... Not Horizon.

VR is a niche thing trying to get mainstream. It's dumb to have exclusives at this point meaning users can't get all games. All providers will benefit if VR is a success rather than over-competing before the product even has acceptance. Could all go the way of 3D TVs at this rate.

VR needs to be cheap and the actual headpiece should be lightweight if they really want it to really cross over.

Like imagine, wearing a Vr headpiece like sunglasses and swimming goggles and it costs like $200 dollars.

I can't wait for the day Sony drops VR for good. They are better off spending their resources to something else.
