Pulling an all nighter

In the Midwest, schoolwork crams you!
It's doing that to me right now. :csad:

I've gotta memorize the phylogenies of the amphibians and be able to identify members of different families and species for a test in a week and a half. Bah. It was fish last week...

I've pulled all nighters before never had a problem. and its not like i just started studying.

Good for you. It's still ill-advised for most people, and less effective at actually committing things to memory.

yea if you have studied all week or whatever, it shouldn't be an issue, monday was days ago. just go to sleep, dont be stubborn. and if you are cheating like a loser... then you shouldn't need to stay up all night. loser.....

Yeah, for some classes, they encourage you to bring in your own sheet of paper with notes and formulas. I mean, these are classes where you're being introduced to about a dozen new formulas every chapter.

Well Wall Crawler, memorizing names is probably a easier than remember alphanumeric formulas and equations...

So i have twoexams tomorrow, been studying for past week and a half, and the teacher gave us new material on monday, so im going to pull an all nighter to review everything and write my cheat sheets.

have any of you guys had to pull an all nighter either at the job or at school?
Thats nothing. Coming up in two Sunday's... I work 8 am - 5 pm. Am off for five hours go back and work 10 pm - 7 am. THEN have school from 8-2.

At school I did stay up also 3 days in a row as I did not go to any lectures for 6 months and had my part 1's (UK) 3 days in a row. I passed which was a miracle.

For work, as an investment banker, I have spent all nighters on weekends working. All nighters came up very often and sometimes it was great to have a couple hours to be able to go home, take a shower and change your clothes.

I did the graveyard shift at work for a few weeks. Wasn't too bad, some nights were fine, others were a struggle.

I work nights so I have. when I was in college I crammed before bed then crammed right after I got up, just figured how long it took to get to class and tried to leave where I would arrive right on time.

I actually like working third better than any other shift for the most part you don't have a supervisor standing over your shoulder watching everything you do. I was offered second shift a month ago and turned it down. Mostly because it was a 4-1 shift, meaning 4 afternoons and 1 night. If I work I want to work straight across the board all days or all nights.

I only pull all nighters when it's work related, or when it comes to school for projects. Also, in my case have always found studying anything right before the exam doesn't work for me. I tend to just remember what I read last and forget alot of the other stuff. As was said before, pulling an all-nighter before an exam isn't a good idea. Your brain is in too hectic of a mode to be able to retrieve information properly (for most that is).

On cheat sheets. Alot of professors/teachers allow you to have them because the actual act of writing things down greatly increases your retention of the material. Students spend time finding the most important information and writing it down, sometimes several times in efforts to make a more efficient "cheat sheet". Alot of times, because of the work sorting out the important bits and writing it out, therefore more solidly enforcing it in your memory, you don't even use it for most of the exam. Though when it comes to physics/math formulas this isn't usually the case.

For you, maybe.

Identifying and naming a fish from the subclass Dipnotetrapodamorpha is no laughing matter. :csad:

all decent engineers have pulled an all-nighter on at least one occasion...
