I'm not a big mainstream reader.

I'm more into the Ultimate univerese and even then it is only once they release the trade paper backs.

Does Civil War extend to all the titles or is it confined to the Seven Part miniseries?

it extends into most of the regular titles, if only for a couple issues each.

Civil War ties into SOME titles, but the only reason to buy those titles is if you're interested in more details about how those particular characters are responding to the event. But they are not needed in the least "to get the whole story"
