Question about playing PS1 games on a PS2.. please help

I was thinking about buying some old Ps1 games and playing them on my Ps2, however, I heard that you can only save your game to a Ps1 memory card, NOT a Ps2 memory card. Ps1 memory cards are pretty cheap online if you buy them from a third-party developer.

My question is, will third-party Ps1 memory cards work on a Ps2? Or will only official Sony brand memory cards work on the Ps2?

yes I have a OEM (aka a real one) PS2 memory card and a third party one for PS1 both plugged into my 12 year old PS2. as long as you have it plugged in when playing PS1 games on the PS2 it will work fine.

Some PS1 games I tried on my PS2 didn't work.

Jick, Do you have the original model or the slim? I have the slim model and last time I checked, all my games and demo discs worked on it..

For the PS2?
I have the fat version. The first one.
I believe it's just an issue with me, but I wanted to give a heads up anyway.

the PS1 card is a Pelican and i think like 98% of all PS1 games play on PS2 there was like a small list of games that would not work on the PS2 but they were like off the wall games that hardly anybody ever played.

EDIT: while you can hook up Component (red/blue/green for video red/white for audio) AV cables to the PS2, PS1 games will NOT play over component only Composite (the yellow/white/red cable that comes with every PS2 or PS3 standard). I keep my standard composite cable hooked up to my LCD TV's ONLY component in on the back and when I ever want to play PS1 games I just unplug the AV cable from the back of the PS2 and plug in the composite AV cable to the PS2.
