I need help with scanning...

Whenever I do scan a drawing, I get a lot of grey spots all over it, that looks like the pencil was rubbed everywhere. How do I get rid of that?

Now for the proportions...

I know them like the back of my freakin' hand, but whenever I draw a picture, especially on women, it turns out so that her chest may look real long, or I'll have to draw an enormous body on her.

I've read somewhere that some people go by slighty different proportions for women [for guys, the second head level falls at the nipples, whereas I'm guessing it wouldn't for girls, but I've also heard it'll fall at the girl's nipples and at the bottom of the guy's chest].

Any clarification?

I have this problem too. From what I can figure, it's because of erasing. Lots of erasing in a spot makes it come out like that. So the solution is less or softer erasing.

for your grey spot problem- put it into paint and there is a sample button select that then click on the non grey part then go to your paint brush and paint over it.
as for your proportion problem- take the estimate of the size of the head then figure out how many of those heads would make up the body. then you can estimate that its 1 and a half heads for example until the boobs. another way could be the notion that the start of the legs are half way in the body so the legs and the top half are the same size.

its different on all people don't fall into the trap of universal rules they are only meant as general suggestions

When I have a person I'm drawing from I'm fine, and I know the proportions, like I said, like the back of my hand... They just don't seem to turn out right.

I'll draw a somewhat medium-sized head, and the next head-length will seem to make the body HUGE... Which is what I don't understand.

The grey spots could be a lot of things really, its hard to judge with out seeing an actual scan.

A lot of the marks that i get are where i haven't rubbed out the pencil well enough. What i do is use the IMAGE>ADJUSTMENTS>BRIGHTNESS/ CONTRAST in photoshop to take out the greyer areas and increase the darks of my inks. You could also use the "LEVELS" function aswel.

As for the proportion thing, I recommend finding some Andrew Loomis PDF's to download.

Heres a sample from one of his books- edited for the youngsters

All males and females are different, so there are no exact rules, but you can follow these as a basic guide line. Its mostly in the 'head heights', both of these being 8 heads- but because the heads of a male and female are slight smaller, they end up being a different height.

they are much better than the ones i posted
