Transformers Question About Transformers Characters In The Movie

Hi, I was just wondering if the following characters that were in the movie were in the origional comics, toys, and shows: Sam Witwicky, Captain Lennox, and USAF Tech Sergeant Epps. Have these characters been in Transformers all along, or just created for the movie?

Sam Witwicky is the main human character in the G1 cartoons and comics...i think the other 2 characters are made up for the movie.

Actually in the cartoon it was Spike but he's pretty much Sam just they changed his name to a more believable name

well lets think about the names of the kids in transformers. there all usually kind of corny anime names that arent at all realistic.

I thought "Spike" and "Sparkplug" were just their nicknames.
