Quick Time Events! Good or Bad

Do you like quick time events?

  • Yes, they make the game more immersive.

  • No, it's just simple button mashing that dumbs down the game.

  • Sometimes. When used properly.

Do you hate it when the game limits you to just pushing a random button to avoid enemy attacks or falling debris or does it make the situation more immersive?

When used sparingly, they're fine. Otherwise they can really make me hate a game. RE4 is amazing but the ****ing knife fight I dread every single time I play it.

If a game has dozens of them then I tend to just avoid them altogether because I hate them.

That first boulder run on the hardest difficulty is also pretty miserable.

Pass on QTEs, I don't think they add anything.

They allow for more spectacle and not much else.

I'd love to see games have the option for turning off QTEs.

If it's like in Assassin's Creed 4, where you come across a shark or crocodile and the game has you do a quick time event in order to not be killed by the animal, then, yeah they're okay, I guess.

If they're used sparingly, then I don't mind too much.

So I did not vote.

I mostly tend to agree with this.

A game I love but have hard time playing because of how QTE system is implemented is Tomb Raider reboot, be very precise at when you press the displayed button or you lose and retry that part of the mission instead of simply retrying the sequence, and sometimes you miss even when you hit it right, because you have to wait for the stupid circle to properly center around displayed button.

This, not the hate the game, but this.
I hate that QTE scene, different buttons every time you reply the same frames is more annoying.

They're bad and horribly executed. It's so jarring to getting enamored into gameplay.
