The lyrics are so wrong.

"A city of justice, a city of love" :woot:

LOL

But, BTW, I am a fan of a calmer Gotham CIty where Batman's presence actually makes the city a lot safer, at least concerning "ordinary" criminals and not this modern "sodom & hell on earth" approach.

Discuss.

I actually kinda like this song........

*avoids objects thrown at me*

But Gotham is hell on earth...it's the criminal capital of the world in the DCU.

Batman's world is not one of optimism.

As Paul Levitz put it..."While Superman represents a world of optimism and the ideal that your life will get better, Batman represents a world of survival and the ideal of maintaining your safety and security now."

So while Supes is all about looking to that bright future where everything's hearts and flowers, Batman's all about staying alive in the here and now and not waiting for something that'll never come.

Yes, but this is new "interpretation". In the beginning 30s and 40s Gotham City was actually a city full of honest men, while Metropolis was very corrupt. "Gotham City as hell" came up with Frank Miller, but not instantly, and in the recent comics they make Gotham City a little bit more peaceful. I like this better, because it shows that Batman actually achieved something. From the Year One pit into a decent city + teh freaks.

Well, next door to happiness lives sorrow :p .

Right I see...and I won't be one to bash the notion of 'interpretation'

I personally prefer the corrupt cesspool, simply because it gives Batman a reason to operate and continue his crusade. That's why Gotham should never really be peaceful to me...

but to each his own

I don't kinda like the song I like the song. To me it was one of his last great songs and 40 times better than the one he made for Space Jam.

*ducks tomatoes*

Agreed.

Both "Gotham City" and "I Believe I Can Fly" are filled with R&B cliches (choirs, beat clapping, etc.) but The former has two advantages:

1: Not AS cliche as the latter.
2: It's Batman-related

Have any of you ever heard 'Arkham Asylum' by Ryan Adams? It's not on any album, but there's bootlegs of it out there. Anyway, not his best work, but there's obviously quite a bit of Batman-related stuff in the lyrics:

Here's the chorus:

And Arkham Asylum has walls to keep us safe
Life just ain't designed to prevent every mistake
And every lock has its key and nobody ever really sleeps
Up in Rockingham Estates
Rockingham, Rockingham Estates
Rockingham, Rockingham Estates

And a verse:

Tree tops have all gone black from all the rushing of the bats
That scramble up in the leaves -- the night is dawning
And vengeance is gonna come for that Joker that done her wrong
And like a cat on a canary -- you're Bruce Wayne

Sorry if this has already been mentioned someplace else, but I thought it was kind of cool.

being a Ryan Adams fan, and a Batman fan, why do I not already have this song?

Over to Limewire it is then...........

Oh, and I also agree with Cain, 'Gotham City' is definitely one of Kelly's better late songs, along with 'I wish'. For some reason, I used to have a lot of time for R Kelly, but his lyrics started to get very VERY silly, ending in the aformentioned 'in the closet' saga, with such gems as "Look in the cupboard, its a midget".

I also thing 'Kiss From A Rose' is one of Seals best songs.

I don't think Gotham City's that bad. Too sappy for a Batman related song, but not hideously offensive.

My favourite Batman songs will always be "Face to Face" and "Scandelous" though.

I was never really crazy about this song, but overall I wasnt a big fan of the Batman & Robin soundtrack back in the summer of 1997 either. Which was very much unlike the Batman soundtracks of '89, and '95. Sure, there are a few songs I actually like from the B&R sndtrk, but ultimately I felt it was a letdown in contrast to the previous efforts.

Just like the film itself.

the batman songs i like are

Kiss from a rose

and the end is the beginning is the end (ducks fists comming through monitor)

I Wish was amazing to me. But yeah sometime after Chocolate Factory he just completely lost me with always dumbing down his songs to the point of ******edness. But at least I'll always have his older joints to always bump in the ride. I agree on the Kiss From A Rose opinion too, it's not his best (Crazy still is IMO) but the song is a freaking classic.

a true classic song by a guy who loves to piss on young girls,

r kelly, you deserve an award for your batman song

lol

I like the song and agree with everyone about how ridiculous R. Kelly has gotten. He did write a decent song a few years ago for MJ though called "One More Chance at Love", I think. What album is that "face to face" song on?
