I just got a crisp clean version of the official Batman Forever movie magazine, from a nostalgic toy and comic book shop in my area called Quake Collectibles. And the very last page discribes a scene that didn't end up in the movie. It's very cool looking. It has Batman and Robin standing on a very large and creepy looking gargoyle, with a HUGE blue screen in the back ground. The description under the pic goes as so ...

It's entitled "Guardians of Gotham"

"A lone silhoutte stands vigil over Gotham City _ Batman. Then, another figure steps from the shadows, and their capes billow together in the wind. Robin has joined the Dark Knight. Together they are the guardians of the night. Criminals of Gotham, beware!"

I don't know, but that sounds a hell of alot cooler than what we got. Maybe the blue screen effect for adding in Gotham got too expensive?! Instead we get this crappy shot of Batman and Robin running at the camera, with Batman's floppy ears shaking everywhere ... and a scene that reminds me more of campy camp stuff of the 60's, then of a Dark Knight who has partnered with a hip yet disturbed young man. Which scene would you rather have had? I'll try and scan it for you guys to see.

Oh, the sidebar also says ...

"Below, a behind-the-scenes shot: Batman and Robin stand in front of a "blue screen" for BATMAN FOREVER'S climatctic shot. The background will be added during post-production."

Anyone know what happened?

I'm actually working on a way to use that shot in my cut of Forever, "The Real Game Begins."

That would be awesome, man. You know, Forever isn't as great (IMO) as it's two previous movie incarnations, but it was fun and I've always had a sort of special place for it. But this scene would've been SO much better. Kind of like it was a tribute to the B89 ending.

i've got that pic on my pc, a guy i know sent it to me so i dunno if it's okay to post it without his permission, you know, it's such a rare pic.

I would have loved to have seen it cut like that, while seeing Bats and Robin standing on a gargoyle with Gotham in the background ... as Seal's Kiss From a Rose plays.

That finale in the video game trailer was done for exclusively for this trailer and not for the movie itself.

Yeah, and I hope that if they're gonna release a Director's Cut of 'Batman Forever,' they put in the alternate ending.

Those 30 seconds of ending silhouette are not enough to make up for the rest of the movie.

Meh they made it sound much more dramatic than it probably would be, basically it was Batman on a ledge looking a the city while Robin walked next to him. I liked the Running from the bat-signal into the camera my self.

I think that would have been way more dramatic, and visually stimulating. Alot more so than shadows running at a screen in slow motion.

Visually stimulating? That's why my brain is on The Box! I feel like a fried egg.

I don't think that will work, because having Batman & Robin together over Kiss from a Rose might imply the wrong thing.....it might not though. It might work. I will be trying it.

You're right, Kiss From a Rose does not sum up the new formed relationship between Batman and Robin.

Both Shumacher movie's implied ... matter of fact directly STATED more than that, I think you'd be ok with a scene cut like that.

LOL.

If anything, I'd like the triumphant Elfman music from the final shot of the first movie, but I won't have time to get that in.

If you read the BF novelisation the ending is different.

That's almost word for word the ending in the script

Just to interject...you're saying Batman and Robin "standing still" would be MORE dramatic than them running?

Someone needs to make a fake Brokeback Batman Forever trailer complete with Kiss from a Rose playing during the dramatic end of the trailer.

i think that the start to u2 song would work better than kiss from a rose
for the ledge shot

It doesn't, believe me. Hold Me, Thrill Me...is great but it's too energetic for that shot, which is still and atmospheric.
