My first PS3 last two years before the sodder failed. I managed to keep it going using a hair dryer long enough to transfer the data to a new one, but as soon as the download completed it died for good, almost like it knew its watch was over.
The slim still works perfectly fine to this day. When I use it, it reminds me how much I miss being able to store media on the 4 and 5, and having customizable backgrounds.
I know exactly what you mean. Even now, sometimes I still wanna plug in my Ps3 for games that weren’t remastered and just stuck on that system. The problem though is that I have the old fat OG Ps3, and after playing for like less than an hour I get a warning that the system is overheating and is gonna shut down because of it.
I’m not all that tech savvy, but it’s something to do with the “paste” inside of it. My cousin gave me his slim Ps3 which like you said, runs fine for the most part.
And speaking so much of the Ps3, here are my ranks:
1. Ps3 - gonna have to give it to the underdog here. Despite the fact that it had such a rocky start, some of my favorite video games ever were during this generation. Mass Effect 2 (my all time favorite), Uncharted 2 (just thinking about the campaign makes me feel nostalgic, Yakuza 3 (where I started on the series and now Kazuma Kiryu is my most favorite fictional character ever) and LittleBigPlanet 2, in my opinion one of the best Ps3 games ever, super underrated and actually the game I was talking about above that’s stuck on Ps3 since it never got remastered.
I’m not even sure if I can put the rest into any particular order but I’ll try.
Ps2 - arguably the greatest video game console of all time. So much of my core childhood was on this system. The Tekken series, GTA (although I was too young for it and shouldn’t have been playing it), Need for speed underground 2 - they don’t make em like that no more, and many other games. Those were just to name a few.
Ps1 - I have to think hard about how much fun I had with each console because that’s how I’m ranking them, and I think with Ps1 being the first console I ever owned might be the next one in time in terms of how much fun I had. The Rugrats games were my jams… Search for Reptar & Studio Tour. I didn’t become a hardcore Tekken fan until the next gen, but it started for me this gen with Tekken 3, one of the greatest video games of all time, and the best selling in the series up until Tekken 7 last gen.
Ps4 - this was the generation that re-solidified Sony’s position in the hardware space of console generations, but it was also the first generation that Sony started charging their player base for online multiplayer. I absolutely hated that they did that and kept raising the price, too. To this day, I’m pretty sure the entry level price is $80 yearly.
Despite that though, I have had a lot of great memories with Uncharted 4, particularly the multiplayer; outside of CoD it became my go-to game for online play. I played a lot more of the Yakuza series this generation too. I also skipped out on GTAV on Ps3, and experienced it entirely on this console.
Ps5 - dope console, but I agree with
@DarthSkywalker that the console lacks depth. Bugsnax was a launch title and it already makes me feel nostalgic. I stopped playing CoD after MW2, so this has mostly just been a PS4 pro pro for me. I’ve mostly just been getting through my backlog of Ps4 games this generation.
