This is my rant on the AQUAMAN movie writers Will Beall (Gangster Squad) and Kurt Johnstad (300: Rise of an Empire). Do you agree or disagree with my thoughts?

Hmm... No offense but this sounds like the moaning that preceded the first trailer for THE WINTER SOLDIER a bit and every one and his brother loved what the final product was there. I'm more interested in the choice of directors and hope it's someone that can get the most bang for their buck as well as have some kind of experience with handling a movie of this size.

Johnstad worked on 300 and the sequel. That's a good thing imo. We'd be lucky to get an Aquaman movie that's as good as 300.

I'm gonna wait and see, I'm skeptical of the writers, but I'm not gonna make myself miserable over it.

I wouldnt be surprised if they see a 300-like potential in Aquaman and got Murro to direct.

I would love that

There are a lot of similarities between Aquaman and Thor. i think Aquaman will be a more violent and grim movie than Thor. Probably less family friendly as well if 300 is any indicator of how the movie will end up. 300 is a great place to draw inspiration from for this movie. They should definitely play up the greek aspects of Atlantis. The movie can look like 300 underwater

300 under water sounds nothing like what AQ is and sounds pretty horrible overall no offense.

Aquaman is something pretty original why make it a lame derivative of a former Snyder flick whose sequel was universally panned? I am all for badass Arthur but that is trying way to hard. Play the story for what it is, a magical kingdom below the sea that hates the surface dwellers and has ridiculous tech.

I'm just saying I could see it happening. It wouldn't be my ideal direction by any means.

Though as someone who enjoyed both 300 movies, I'm sure I could still get a kick out of it if it went that route.

Just because he wrote both 300 movies doesnt mean he cant write something in a different style. Would be a pretty bad writer if he could only write 300 movies ;)

I am not too worried about it though...I highly doubt the Aquaman movie goes that route.

I don't know. That sounds like a lot to me.

Honestly I wouldn't mind the tone of 300 to be part of Aquaman. Obviously a much different movie, but I think the gritty vibe from 300 could add a lot to it.

Aquaman will be WBs gritty answer to Thor. Hopefully this movie goes full on fantasy. There should be minimal comedy like in 300. The tone can be totally 300 esque. I'd set it entirely underwater

This is a question I'd like to ask.

You think Aquaman movie should be based on Geoff Johns Throne of Atlantis?

I think that would be a great story to use, though I think it works best as a JLA story. Either way though I am happy.

I want it to look and feel nothing like 300 though...gritty yes but other than that I want it nothing like that. How about instead of making it derivative of something else they just make it its own thing and let the story be front and center. AQ doesnt have to be "DCs Thor" DC doesnt need a Thor.

AQ and Wonder Woman should be their own beasts.

Does it matter if they're not sure which direction they want to take Aquaman? The movie isn't even filming yet. The scripting stage is a perfect time to feel things out and determine what works. Weird thing to be concerned about.

On the concept of hiring two writers for one movie (basically may the best man win)...I think it could be effective. Both writers will likely raise their game, knowing they are competing for the prize.

Interesting take on the writers! As for the movie itself, I would be surprised if Aquaman gets off the ground, let alone gets into production. It would be a tough sell for the studio.

I don't have the up most confidence in the individual writers, but I do have confidence in the approach that Warners is taking with the writing itself. That is, writing two scripts in hopes of finding middle ground using the best elements of both.
