Lets get this straight for all that dislike Electro's look in this movie.

The first photo was taken from Ultimate Spider-Man. They clearly drew influence from it. If it disappoints you that they didn't go the classic green and yellow route, or that you simply don't enjoy the look, go watch another movie.

Right on, Bro!

Voted 9/10
Looks fantastic.
Better than I expected

Can't wait to see him on screen

@ Vid: Thats how it goes some people wont cave because you think your opinion is right and vice versa and thats why its called agree to disagree.

I give it a 8/10. It works for me but then some things I would've done differently. Foxx said it was going to be all black and so I was assuming we were going to get the Ultimate look, but this sort of looks like a mixture of the 616-version (lightning bolts on the pads), Prometheus-like armor that feels like "SSM", and Foxx's exposed hands and face which resembles the Ultimate look.

Personally, where the look gets a 9/10 for me is the electrical currents inside Foxx's skin. That seals the deal for me on the look. The suit is satisfactory.

This is what we have now, complaining about it over and over again isn't going to change anything.

Pretty much. But you know people are going to complain about it not being 616 colors whenever a new image is released. They're free to do so, but I don't see much point in it. The costume is here. You've all known that it wouldn't be green and yellow since the beginning when Foxx confirmed it. It is what it is. You're all going to sound like broken records soon.

No. As I've enumerated MANY times. NO ONE is asking for that.

I was only asking a question. There's no need to get all charged up about it. But thanks for clarifying.

I dislike the generic-ness of it. He's already a character with the most generic, overdone powers, why not make him a little more interesting or memorable visually? No, instead we get a glowing blue guy in gray body armour that looks like henchman #3 from some futuristic, sci fi video game.

I would probably agree that in a still shot, Electro does not look memorable. It'll be interesting though to see how well the suit translates to film and how well the effects are done...i.e. electricity pulsing thru his veins, little arcs coming off his scalp, his eyes, etc. As I said, it looks as though they pulled from various sources to create his look. While not his classic colors it still remains faithful to the character. Again though I say, I'm a fan of 616 so I would have liked them to include some reference.

I don't get this closed minded aspect of character/costume design. Sure, get rid of the star mask and bright colours, etc...but the basic costume design is there- and it would've worked. After all, we've got the an exact translation of the classic Spider-Man costume. How it it any less cheesy/unrealistic than the Electro costume (sans star mask)?

Yeah, but it's not an exact translation of the Spider-man costume. Once again you've got a suit that brings together various elements. There's the ASM influence with the spider logos, the influence with from Raimi with the texture and possibly the webbing design, the eyes are reminiscent of either Bagley or Macfarlane...etc. Many elements in creating the design. If it were exact it would look like this:

There's quite a difference between ASM2 suit and this. The influence is there in some aspects but the new suit pulls from other sources as well. Same with Electro. His suit and overall look are pulled from various sources.

Is that really an issue? Did the Raimi series suffer because it featured the Green Goblin, then Doc Ock in a green trench coat, then Sandman in a green shirt, then Harry in green body armour?.

When you tie in all the villains that we got from Raimi to this new series, yes it does become a problem. Just about every villain is green. How about something different? We now have a blue Electro and what will probably be a grey Rhino. I'm down.

It could turn out to be excellent. Who knows- I do now, though, that a movie being a little more faithful to well-established source material never hurt it...

And I agree. As with Electro, they've brought his look from well-established source material, just not directly from his classic look. You may not like the Ultimate comics but that doesn't mean they aren't established. You have an entire generation of people that grew up reading that version of Spider-man.

Like you, I'm just hoping for the best possible Spider-man movie, cause like you, I am a big Spidey fan. I get your criticisms and I get why you're so upset...there's 50 years worth of Spidey fans out there and they all have their deeply guarded passions and ideas of what works and what doesn't. There's no pleasing everyone, but I hope this sequel works out for ya.

It's not about "caving", it's about acknowledging, understanding and responding intelligently to what the other person is communicating. That doesn't happen around here...

The TASM2 costume does look like that. It's got all the same elements (aside from the web pits which appear and disappear depending on the artist)

I don't personally consider the Ultimate comics to be "well-established" to the point where they take precedence over the 616 universe. After all, how many people would love if Gwen was a punk rock bad girl (because she is in the ultimate comics!) or if she was killed by Carnage (because it happened in the ultimate comics!) or if Captain Stacy had been blown up by a Spider-Man impersonator (because it happened in the ultimate comics!)?

When it comes down to it, Electro appeared for maybe three issues in his black jumpsuit and for a few more appearances as a naked, generic, glowing, blue guy. For me personally, there's no personality or history there.

I see a lot of people using comic panels to justify how they think this version of Electro looks great. Just because it was used in a comic series doesn't necessarily mean it's the best iteration of the character. I would throw a piss fit if Doc Ock looked like this:

Doc_Ock_(Ultimate_Spider-Man).jpg

That said, I don't hate or love the look. I am sort of neutral. He looks like Mr. Freeze, lets face it. But, I think the movie will have the electricity moving in his skull which might make it visually more interesting. I think my major problem with it is Jamie Foxx's face. I still see Jamie Foxx...I don't see Electro. So, a bit neutral at this point. Electro is a very difficult character to nail as his 616 costume is silly. It's not like an awesome design for Electro is out there right now like there was for the Lizard and the ASM Spidey costume (which they learned). So again, neutral...could be awesome on film...we will see.

It doesn't jump out as OMG this is amazing like the AMS2 Spidey costume, Doc Ock in SM2, or Flint Marko in SM3. But again, we'll see.

I'm not using comic book panels to justify why TASM2's Electro looks great. I legitimately think he looks awesome, and that's that. He doesn't look like Mr. Freeze at all IMO. Seems like people think that just because he is bald and is blue.

I still don't understand why people are so worried about TASM2 being overstuffed, but nobody seems to worry about X-Men: Days of Future Past.

With the absence of Vaughn, they should be.

As for the topic, I like it. Its not a 10/10 for me but it gets a thumbs up from me.

Maybe Electro looks like Mr. Freeze at first glance, but otherwise, no. Its subjective I guess.

Since when does Mr. Freeze have deformed ears?

LOL he does look like Mr. Freeze. Ears aren't the first thing people notice, what's immediately obvious is they're both bald blue guys. They do look the same to most people, no denying that.

That being said, I think this look for Electro is pretty cool, I'm looking forward to seeing it in action.

Yeah, they do look similar at first glance. But i doubt that anyone that isn't a comic book/movie fan will think of Mr. Freeze when they see Electro.

They look similar at first but the electric currency and the transparency in Electro's head distinguishes him from Freeze. Regardless, Foxx's performance will be the deciding factor on how Electro is judged and not necessarily his looks.

Yup. I'm sure the film makers knew that too.

Pretty much. "Fans" only (ie. will love any/every choice production makes). I missed the part where this was a praise board...

Absolutely. A little creative tinkering and it could have been done :yay:

Hello, I'm new to the forums and this is my first post :yay:

But I'm here to show you (at least) my version of what you said of "creative thinking".

This is what I thought of when you wanted the yellow and green+blue electro type of design.. sorry for the drawing, im not that good at it :whatever:

It could work for the film, of course just better detailing and drawing skills :woot:

with the Lizard I understoof the hate it got while I myself thought that the design was ok, but here with this Electro design I just don't understand the hate

no one does it :yay: it's seems people love hatin, being critical about everything, nothing is good and everything can be so much better IF we do this, do that, doing on me, doing on you, doing threesome, etc. you will always see more people hating something then supporting something.
