I adore them all except for the 2nd one. Thanks to Bird and McQuarrie taking things to another level, this is now my favorite ongoing Hollywood franchise.

My ranking is almost the same, except I think I'd flip III and M:I. Fallout is unequivocally the best, but Rogue Nation is a really close second.

It's really hard not to like these films, and they really have gotten consistently better over the years. It also really helps you can feel how passionate Cruise is about doing them and his love for the craft shows.

They're all pretty good except for the sequel. I have a ton of nostalgia for the second movie though. Just a tremendous franchise though.

The second one I thought was outright terrible, and the third was pretty mediocre. The rest are all really good. I prefer all of the moving parts and more spy thriller style of the original though, as opposed to the next three which are more straight forward action movies (albeit really good ones). But any of the top four could be placed in any order and I wouldn't complain too much.

 

[Doctor Jones]

Yeah, I have such a soft spot for that first movie. It's still the only one to really be a spy thriller. I'd like to see it return to that at some point. Even in the action it relies more on suspense. But when it gets to the finale like the bullet train, it's riveting. But it's as much of a DePalma film. A Hitchcockian paranoid thriller.

[Drizzle]

I watched all of the M:I movies over the past week since they're all on Paramount+ I had previously only seen the first two so I figured now was as good a time as any to catch up. M:I 2 being as boring as it is was the reason why I didn't give the rest of the series a chance until now, and needless to say each film improved since then. It's one of those rare series that more or less gets better with each film, with Fallout being the best of the bunch.

The action sequences and unbelievable stunt work are the stars of the show here but the biggest issue this series has is, for the most part, uninteresting villains with the exceptions of Voight in 1, Hoffman in 3 (the best villain in these films IMO), and Cavill in 6.

Ah, seeing M:I2 at the bottom of so many lists warms my heart. It’s the only one that’s flat out garbage, whereas all the others are pretty strong films. I would rank them:
