The only one i've seen is Memento, and Casino. I have Seven Samurai but I havent seen it yet.

Casino = :down

I don't like it, it feels like a 2nd. rate Goodfellas to me.
Nice work on the other ones though.

Memento LE? Niiiiiiceeeeee
I need that one :(

Why do you need us to rate them? I can only surmise that a. You're rather insecure and you're seeking affirmation or, more than likely, b. You're basically showing off.

With that said, looking at some of the purchases in there, I'd be showing off too.

I recently watched Casino again cuz I just bought it, absolutely loved it. Robert Deniro is such an awesome character, he just owns his characters, and everyone else is great as well.

Yes, I know he's Bobby and all, I just didn't find it very fascinating :cmad:

I notice you got Dreams too, nice

Dreams is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen, and is my favorite Kurosawa flick. As for Casino, I thought it was fasinating seeing a guy who ran his life so perfect have everything come crumbling down due to the imperfection of others. I mean watching the movie, DeNiro's character's only flaw is that he just so damn perfect, that and he sticks by his guns.

that Gojira isnt out yet

Preorder which usually means they ship out early so it's probably already shipped out :cmad:

Dude...Dreams is amazing. My favorite Kurosawa film is Ikiru by far. Its so amazingly small and personal. Not a samurai epic or war epic of any kind, its something so beautiful.

Casino is good, not the greatest but far from bad. Seven Samurai is the best samurai flick Akira made. I don't care if thats the most popular one. Its the most popular for a reason *****es. Memento...duh. The Midnight Movie Collection however...ehh...I MUST HAVE IT! lol Thats so cool. Those movies are the ****. But then again, people like us = t3h nerds of movies.

All around good stuff. Stargate is a random choice but hey, to each his own.

Saw it for 5 bucks at Target, and I said aw **** it I got a soft spot for Roland Emmerich from when I was a kid. As for Ikiru, still need to see that. I've seen Yojimbo, Seven Samurai, Dreams, and Ran by Kurosawa, Rashoman comes in tommorrow from netflix.

A List of Films
  1. Stargate
A good movie (there have been about 4 DVD versions so far) shows that greatness can be done with a medium budget.
  2. Casino - 10th Annivarsary Editon
    Excellent movie
  3. Gojira/Godzilla King of the Monsters 2 Disc SE
I don't have that version (mine is just single disc) but it's a classic.
  4. Seven Samurai - Criterion 3 Discer
Another classic...I can't afford the Criterion editions though, so I still only have it on tape.
  5. Before Sunset
    Haven't seen it yet.
  6. 8 1/2- Criterion
Good movie, haven't seen it in 15-20 years, don't own it.
  7. Frankenstein - Frankenstein Legacy Collection
All the Legacy Collections are terrific (good quality copies of the films and decent extras)...Frankenstein is of course a classic
  8. Bride of Frankenstein - Frankenstein Legacy Collection
IN many ways better than the first...great movie.
  9. Son of Frankenstein - Frankenstein Legacy Collection
Very well made and moody, excellent use of shadows...I met Donnie Dunagan this summer, he played Basil Rathbone's son (so he is the grandson of Frankenstein as well)..nice guy.
  10. Ghost of Frankenstein - Frankenstein Legacy Collection
    Strange but good.
  11. House of Frankenstein - Frankenstein Legacy Collection
They tried to fit too much into this one, but still fun to watch.
  12. Persona Special Edition
    Haven't seen it.
  13. The Haunted Palace - MGM Midnite Movie Double Feature
    Good...atmospheric.
  14. Tower of London - MGM Midnite Movie Double Feature
    Underrated...
  15. Invisible Invaders - MGM Midnite Movie Double Feature
    Goofy small budget film...but fun.
  16. Journey to the Seventh Planet - MGM Midnite Movie Double Feature
I haven't seen this since I was a kid (40 or more years ago) so I don't remember much about it. But John Agar was the king of B-Sci Fi.
  17. Abominable Dr. Phibes - MGM Midnite Movie Double Feature
I have this double feature disc...you gotta love Phibes..he's so inventive with his murders.
  18. Dr. Phibes Rises Again - MGM Midnite Movie Double Feature
Another good one. Robert Quarry is good as his antagonist this time.
  19. Memento LE
    Modern classic.
  20. Windsor Mccay: The Master Edition
I want to know more about this. I love Windsor McCay...I have a giant sized book that reprints every one of his "Little Nemo in Slumberland" comic strips. He was a master storyteller and artist.
  21. Akira Kurosawa's Dreams
Not one of my favorite Kurosawa films..but all of his are worth watching.
  22. The Public Enemy - The Warner Gangsters Collection
    Great movie
  23. White Heat - The Warner Gangsters Collection
    Classic...one of Cagney's best.
  24. The Petrified Forest - The Warner Gangsters Collection
Another classic (you went all out with this purchase) Bogart is the best.
  25. Angels with Dirty Faces - The Warner Gangsters Collection
    Another great film.
  26. Little Ceasar- The Warner Gangsters Collection
    Fantastic.
  27. The Roaring Twenties - The Warner Gangsters Collection
Great movie...I believe this is the one where they got a guy with a real machinegun to shoot at Cagney for realism.

Overall....are you my long lost brother?

Perhaps... Do you dream of electronic sheep?

I've seen half the films and the other half I have not. I watched Frankenstein the other night, I had seen it once before but strangely did not remember one thing from it besides the little girl scene. First off I was surprised at the short running time a hour and ten minutes. Another thing was how frightening and disturbing the monster actually is considering the countless spoofs of that incarnation including Van Helsing and Conan's Frankenstein :D The atmosphere and mood is great, and Frankenstein is great. But due to the fact that it came off shortly after sound was first introduced, the acting can be rigid and down right hammy at times. The story also is very simplestic, but the scene with Frankenstein and the girl is classic. Over-all I liked it quite a bit and I'll be rewatching it. Now on to something I been meaning to see for years BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN!

As for Windsor McCay I'll get back to you, I still need to watch it. All this was a pre-college splurg, I move in tommorrow. And as you can see I got a damn good deal, imagine if I tallied the MSRB PRICES!

Ahhh...Phillip K. Dick....he always wrote interesting stories.

Except for the 2 I said I hadn't seen...I have seen the rest of your list at least once...some of them many many times.

A lot of the old movies like Frankenstein had short running times...but they tried to put a lot into the time they had. The advent of sound really threw many people for a loop...they were trying to get away from the over-emoting that many felt was needed to express emotion before sound arrived....so sometimes they overcompensated by being more stiff and quiet. It took a while for everyone to work it out.

Don't know why you would call the Frankenstein in van helsing a spoof. If anything they got pretty close to the character from what I remember from an insert from the book the monster talks and was pretty smart. And I can't belive gojira is out dang guess im going to bestbuy soon.

No way! Casino is great.
Everyone always goes comparing it to Goodfellas; but I think it's sufficiently original. I even think it's - do I dare say it? - better (*runs for cover*)

The only other ones I've seen are Stargate, Memento and Seven Samurai - and I say you can't go wrong with any of them.

Yet the first movie of all time, Birth of a Nation is 3 hours long HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THAT ONE!

Nah that was a harmless joke, evne if the movie sucked. The monster was one of the few things I liked about the movie since it indeed was like the book. But from what I hear a lot of the concepts of Bride of FRankenstein seems to hark back to the book. Since he does indeed talk in Bride.

Also the shot when the monster throws Frankenstein off the wind-mill and he snaps on the wind-mill blades, THAT'S AN AWESOME SHOT! It just sucks that it's cheapened by the fact he still lives :(

quote]I can't belive you bought all these movies dang. Do you just look at dvds and just buy them not caring if there good or bad.I do that some times but its harder to do it now sense I don't have the money I buy to many comics.

I read a lot about movies, I know about a ****-load of movies I've never seen before. So a lot of them I know I'll like and also I have very broad tastes. For example I thought Seventh Seal was great and so I bought Persona, to get more Ingrid Bergman. McCay it's the first cartoons, it's historic! I wanted to expand my movie watching to some classic B-Cinema, what better way than the Midnite Movie line... Etc
