An embarrassing wet noodle of a film, where the biggest crime was not its thin story, but rather how lame it made Green Lantern seem. No kids walks out of that film wishing they were Green Lantern. Not a single legitimately cool moment. Even the Transformers movies get that part right. I wonder if Campbell at any point ever asked himself what the appeal was of the character he was making a movie of.

It's kind of hilarious how much they spent on the movie for VFX that the audience doesn't even enjoy.

3.
I got the dvd for years (and for free) and still couldn't finish it.
Totally unengaging.

It hits the major beats, but loses some direction in the middle before finding itself at the end. It should have stuck closer to the '08 Secret Origin story to iron out some problems.

It was rather mediocre. It wasn't a pain to watch, it was entertaining in places boring in others, some parts were baffling to people like me who don't read Green Lantern but
I could still piece together what was supposed to be going on. But nothing all that memorable. So a 6.

This is a film that could have been great. It has moments that shine, like Sinestro and... and... hmm I guess it really just has Sinestro and that's it.

It's too bad Guardians of the Galaxy was the first Superhero flick brave enough to be set almost entirely in space. This film would have been fantastic if it had just followed the First Flight template and been a buddy cup/training day story in Space.

In short, this movie is a mess of poor story and visuals. The movie doesn't know what it wants to be, it has lazy performances from its lead actors, and is all around just a complete mess. One of the 10 worst CBMs for me, personally. It is not even so bad it is good, like Ghost Rider 2 is. This is just so bland and boring type of bad, it is unwatchable.

I give it a 6. Mark Strong was an excellent Sinestro and I enjoyed the scenes involving the Guardians and the GL Corp - it could have used more of both. And I find Reynolds entertaining. There was a lot of stuff wrong but for me it was nowhere near as bad as say Batman & Robin, Catwoman, or either of the Ghost Rider movies.

The true shame is that Green Lantern has SO MUCH POTENTIAL as a property, and you can tell that WB Execs couldn't see that. Green Lantern is essentially a space cop movie. If you can't make that into a fun story, then you should try harder.

And that's the problem with this movie in a nutshell. It should have tried harder.

4.

4 and it's only because I saw films worse than 4.

They crammed too much in, and couldn't decide what was worthwhile.

Hal's friend in the beginning just disappears from the story. The CG race track made no sense. The stuff in space with the Corp wasn't bad, the stuff on Earth needed work.

Mark Strong recently said that he thought Green Lantern was a solid movie.

It’s fine, an OK movie probably on par with Tim Story’s Fantastic Four movies. I really do think that people throw a level of bad at this film that’s unjustified. Sure it’s pretty standard but I don’t think it’s horrible. I’d probably go with a 6/10 maybe a 6.5/10 when I’m more in the mood to watch it.

Okay, the good.....

- Mark Strong, absolutely spot on as Sinestro
- Kilowog
- depiction of OA.
- the Oath, always a cornerstone of any GL story.

The average

-Ryan Reynolds, miscast and not a strong performance
-Taika Waititi as Tom Kalamaku
-

The bad

- Peter Saarsgard as Hector Hammond
- the plots based around Hammond etc.
- Blake Lively, a contender for most boring love interest in a cbm
- the GL effects
- the Parallax cloud

As such, there's a mix of good and bad, so I give it a 5/10 (I hit 6/10 by mistake on the poll).

Not the worst film, but pretty average - and as many have said an incredible waste of potential. This is a franchise that could be rescued easily and has the potential to be as much fun as GOTG .....they just need to get James Gunn to direct it.

4/10, and that is mainly for Reynolds' charisma.

The choice of director did not help it AT ALL. Campbell openly admitted he knew nothing of the character nor had very much experience with CGI film making prior to release and he wasn't confident going into production. If that's your starting point on a principal photography, then you are always going to be in trouble frankly.

Campbell is a good director, see his work on Bond for evidence of that, but this project was a wrong pick for him.

Reynolds and Strong were very good. Saarsgard makes a great villain in other movies but his Hector Hammond was absolutely awful. I mean like, makes me want to wretch awful. And Parralax is a tough choice for a villain to go on screen. The story wasn’t done well and everything seemed generic and rushed.

Still, mostly due to Reynolds and Strong, I’d say it was a solid 6 and no where near as bad as people make it out to be.

4/10, and that is mainly for Reynolds' charisma.

Did his version of Hal HAVE any charisma

I felt his performance was lifeless. Yeah, he tries to be funny in some bits, but overall he is just sleepwalking and the usual Reynolds charm just never shines through. The whole movie is just lifeless and boring.

I would say a 3. There really wasn't much to like here. I thought the score was pretty good. Sinestro and a few of the other Lanterns were good. That's about it. There are worse superhero films though, even since. I'd still take it over Fant4stic, ASM2, and BvS.

I’d say 5. I feel like the Spill.com guys said it best when they said GL would have been a good superhero movie if it came out in the 90s. It’s very run-of-the-mill, with average special effects and so-so humor. Some of the actors are ok, but there really aren’t any standouts. Reynolds was okay, but nothing special. Even Mark Strong’s Sinestro doesn’t leave that much of an impression because he’s barely in it. And Sarsgaard’s Hammond just looks disgusting. It makes any scene he’s in unpleasant to watch. And then of course you have the Parallax diarrhea cloud. It was all just so mediocre.

Green Lantern is about a 5/10 for me, and that’s mostly for Hector Hammond and Sinestro who’s the one bright spot in that film. Reynolds is fun, but he’s in the wrong movie and I do enjoy the Oa scenes which were rather visually tantalizing.
