How much is riding on this film for the future?

Source, please.

Gladly,

The budget for the film is well over $200 million US, before taking into account Louisiana tax incentives for production. This sum also includes advertising cost.

This does include advertising though. Normally I wouldn't believe CBM, but this is a set visit by Poni, who was the most reliable source on the site before he left.

The dark knight had a budget of 185 Million I believe, I doubt they are giving GL less money than that. With the tax incentives they got in NOLA the budget could very well be 150 million and that would be a positive for the movie because with all things how well it does is going to be measured against its budget. Besides, I dont think we ever know the true budget of these movies but at the end of it all of them probably turn a profit or else almost all the studios would be bankrupt.

Keep in mind that film was a sequel to "Batman Begins", which had a budget of $150 million. The Nolan/Batman franchise had already proven itself before TDK, hence it was worth the risk of a larger investment. I wouldn't expect an unproven first time film to have a budget of $200 million. Sorry, but that is quite risky based on historical budgets.

Don't forget both Nolbat films and Inception came in under budget.

Considering batman begins made 200 and some odd million I would say thats just as risky, and no one could have predicted the dark knight.

Te domestic take was about $205 million, but the world wide gross was over $370 million (according to WorldWideBoxoffice.com). It still made a profit and that's what counts to the studios.

Ok, I will accept that, but keep in mind that it all depends on where you do your filming. Because the Louisiana film industry gives a tax incentive of up to 35% on the money spent or invested on a film project within their state (that's 30% film tax credit plus an additional 5% labor credit), you could spend almost $230 million on a film and it would seem like you would have spent $150 million after the tax credits. The key here is that if there were no tax incentives, they would not be spending over $200 million on the film.
