READ THIS POST, THIS IS NOT FOR YOUR OPINION, IT'S A SIGN-UP
The land of "Geekdom" is a wonderous place indeed, full of odd-quirks and forgetmenots, but alas the time has come to clean house. We need to go back and re-evaluate our favorite films while detaching ourselves from our geek-selves and asking ourselves if these films really got a fare rating... Favorably or Negatively...
Up to the plate are Geekdom's most favorable and undiserable offerings...
If you wish to participate there are some minor stipulations. First I'll make a thread dedicated to that movie, the thread will be open for one week, you must see that movie within that week. You are not require to participate in the discussion within the thread, but your vote an up or down is required to be secretly sent via PM to me. At the end of the 8 weeks, the results for the 8 movies will be posted.
The 8 movies in question are as follows...
1. Batman and Robin (1998)- Originally scorned due to his complete 180 in the face of a dark batman. But perhaps viewed from the light of an earlier era, Silver Age Batman, it cna be enjoyed from a campy persective... What's asked is to detach yourself of your geek POV of Batman only be dark and seeing if it works as a light and campy adventure...
2. Spider-Man (2002)- Considered one of the greatest superhero movies ever made and ushering in the Superhero Renassance, but perhaps it's not quite as good as it seems... Perhaps have the hype and wait blinded us, striding a line between camp and serious, will this movie falter, or hold up?
3. Star Trek the Motion Picture (Director's Cut) - Though not nominated I felt the list needed some spicing up besides comicbook movies, as it is also a movie of scrupulous nature. Directed by a movie legend, Robert Wise, it was destine to be a sight to see instead fans in the late 70s were bored to sleep, well Wise got a second chance to fix a movie that restore life into the Star Trek franchise, does it improve or does it still sink?
4. Hulk (2003)- Universally panned by critics and fans alike for being too artsy and being an extreme version of Shrek, perhaps it can find favor like an aged wine, perhaps people will savor it's subtle character development, or perhaps it'll stink more like rotten eggs, we shall see.
5. Howard the Duck (1986)- Considered to be one of the worst movies ever made, and a personal shame to George Lucas, and basically killed the comic series, this has led a path of death like no other movie, but over time has formed a cult following, perhaps audiences of millienium will find humor in this or perhaps George Lucas really does have more to be ashamed of then Star Wars Special Edition.
6. C.H.U.D. (1984) - I felt there needed to be some horror in this place so I chose a movie I haven't seen but has a cult underground, C.H.U.D., B-Movie fun or B-Movie Dud? You decide!
7. Punisher (2004) - Some people consider it too light for a punisher movie, other think it too graphic... In either case, you decide whether this movie holds up, or is punishment!
8. Super Mario Brothers (1993)- And the only way to truely cap off any geek contest would be with Super Mario Brothers, with an all-star cast can it really be that bad? (Cough Cannonball Run Cough)... Ya....
Those are the movies, sign up now, and in a couple of days the first movie thread shall be posted...
