This is my second time viewing the movie, upon first viewing I thought it was half and half, I thought the first 40 minutes were completely useless and it doesn't get going till after that... My opinion now... The movie isn't perfect but it makes up for it in heart, in many ways it did the same thing Casino Royale did but without the dressings of a whole new look. The main problem with this film is it suffers from being a bit hokey at times along with some really bad actors. So the opening gives me mix feelings, I love how Bond is on his way to Felix Leiter's wedding and it shows Bond off duty, but come on... a man's going abandon his wedding to go on some chase? But on the flip-side the villian has got to be one of my most favorite villians in the Bond universe, he just ozzes with evil and that he doesn't give a ****, and it starts off with him whipping his girlfriend, I'm like wtf! Upon second viewing I love the scenes with Bond and Leiter and his wife, Dalton shows off his acting chops as a gentlemen while showing an inner pain. And really builds to Leiter being fed to the sharks. And there's one of the best scenes of Bond and M which is when he resigns from the service, it shows how cold an M has to be and how Bond, got do what he's got do to save his soul. However there are some problems that affect the first 40 minutes more than the rest of the movie. The first being superflurious characters. The first being Sharky, what the **** is this guy doign here? He's not even introduced, he's just there, and we have to assume he's a good guy, so like you don' even care about the character, and worse the most meaningful thing he does the entire movie is supply a boat, and then he just randomally dies. The next is the black DEA cop who seems to be connected to Leiter, and has a couple of scenes, and then just disappears after the first 40 minutes. Next is killifer, what is the point of this guy, all right he breaks the guy out and he's a bad cop, but he's killed off within 15 minutes of him going evil, ther'es literally no point to his character. That's the problem with the first 40 minutes, it leaves you detached and not caring about these characters. However Bond on his own as a detective is pretty bad ass. And also the scenes litter within the first 40 minutes make it also valuable.
Once Bond makes his way to Istanbul, the movie just goes into over-ddrive of awesomeness. First off another problem with this movie is the Bond women suck. There terrible actresses, however at least Lupe was given something simple hence she's not that bad. Della comes off as a poor-man's ***** Galore. However, again these things can be over-looked since there both amazingly hot, and isn't that the point of Bond women I liked how Bond uses his wits in this movie, and uses all his resources to bring down Sanchez. I love the scenes in the Casino, truely beautiful. And seeing Q in the Field is ****ing awesome, everytime he's on scene I just lit up. ALong with the gadgets, I thought the gadgets were awesome. Also seeing Bond off his A-Game cuz of his Vendetta is great, you really see into the Bond character, and feel bad for him. It has some problems but in the end it makes up for with Heart, and is now one of my favorite Bond films, I give it 8/10... Whether it's better than Living Daylights, I'm not sure, LD is a great straight up Bond adventure and is solid as a whole film while LD has a lot of other memorable things... Anyway this has solidified that Dalton is one of my favorite Bond eras... Who am I kidding, I love em all... t:
