Superman Returns Re: The Offical Jason Appreciation Thread

So you're debating about SR2? OK, that's not stupid...

1). See SR first

2). Jason never has to be a main character. His role is to add depth to Lois and Clark. Wait and see what Bryan, Dan and Mike do. Have some faith.

Zorro 2, the Mummy 2, Jurrasic Park 3 (or maybe it was 4), Transporter 2...the list could go on...those are reasons I have little faith...I'm jaded...it seems like everytime you add a kid, even as a minor plot point it can negatively effect the movie...depth or no

Superman...the child's father has returned, so that is going to turn whatever family (if there was one) on it's head. That's been my point. Why don't you folks want Superman to raise his own son? Yes, we will feel sympathy for Richard, and it's sad for him if Lois leaves him or he leave her. However, what are really talking about here?
Yes it will turn everything on its head, that's a given, and i'm not saying Superman can't have a hand in Jason's life--he just has to be careful how he does it because it is a difficult situation , which is what I see Superman going out of his way to do (be careful). I see him just truly wanting to make sure the kid is happy above all. The kid is happy right now with Richard and Lois. I don't see Superman wanting to break up a great family just so he can reclaim Lois and a father role he can do just as well by simply being there when he is needed/wanted (which we know he will be).

I think it would be more wrong for Lois to marry some guy she didn't love.
Exactly!

This is why the franchise looks so promising. Nothing is predictable and these characters have never faced issues this real.

Why do you think he'll leave? X-men is an exception. They should of signed him asap for X3, but they put it off and kept dicking him. Fox ran Singer out of town. I think he's here to stay for 3 films.

nobody thought Donner would be gone after STM either, but he was...

WB is not known for it's intelligence when it comes to putting together superhero movies..."Superman Lives" anybody??

he can know both--Superman being alive doesn't mean that Richard has to be absent from his life or any less of a father. Come on guys think outside the box. I don't think anyone has to die for these people to have a happy ending

I'm thinking Dick actually will be less of a father now that the real one's back, and he'll either choose to let supey be the father to his son knowing what's best for the kid is to be raised by his own kind who can teach him all about the various concepts of immortality and all that, or maybe if he's never told, resumes his role as father to jason unaware of his true heritage until he starts lifting pickups and running faster than a speeding bullet, then he'll be in for a shock... actually he might want to still be a part of jason and lois' life but how can he do that knowing she's probably still in love with and is the mother of another man's child who's still in her life, even at work with her everyday? I'm thinking he's probably going to want Lois to choose him or supey, leaving the decision of who she wants to father her child to her alone. who will lois marry? please let it be :supes:

the big difference though is that none of those were written and directed by the people who made Superman Returns. Just because other films did it one way, doesn't mean it will be done the same way in this film.

Jesus, at least wait for SR2 before you make a judgement. This is the first movie, and do you really think Singer hasn't been advised or has seen the movies you mentioned????

Jeeze...Did you read someone else bringing up those movies and decide to add that your debate. Seriously, you should have stopped while you were ahead.

This is getting ridiculous...fangirl...you handle them:)

True, but the problem is...she seems to love them both...kind of like in the comics when she first started falling for Clark while still pining for SUpes...she was torn til she learned the truth.

 I know people have seen other movies when the kid thing didn't work, but this is a lot different. There are a lot of issues here. For all we know, the kid could resent Superman for breaking up his family and be a villain in a movie that takes place in another 5 years(like starwars kindof). We just don't know.

Ummm I don't believe that movie ever got made...let me think...no that is why we are getting Superman Returns..

Just keeping thinking like that...dont read a MB...just keep thinking that like. The notion will come. LOL...it took a while for me too:)

Again--where has Superman broken up a family?

Nowhere. He leaves with the family intact. He resigns himself to his solitude again so that Jason and Richard and Lois can maintain their status as a real family.

I would like to see something like the second one in SR2!

I understand, but those films have 1 thing in common. Mediocre talent working on those films.

I don't think Singer would choose this storyline without proper thought.

On a side note:
It might be interesting if Clark gets everything he wants (Lois and Family) and then Lois dies in SR3 and Clark raises Jason alone. Won't happen, not saying it should and/or I want this storyline but it would be another mirror of his life (Martha). Justr a random thought I've typed out.

I'm just voicing my worries here. In no way am I ripping SR. I have waited over 20 years for this and I look forward to it. I already have my tickets for Tuesday nite's opening and again that Friday. :D

What I am saying is I trust WB as far as I can throw them , they are notorious for screwing things up (Batman Forever and Batman and Robin anyone??), and until SInger is 1000% penned for the next one, i'm gonna worry where the kid thing is going to lead.

THat and again, I personally think it is a bit too early in the story for Daddy-Supes. I can get past that, but when you get folks on here saying "ooo..wouldn't it be great to have Jason be a little side-kick." Or "Have Dadman teach him about his powers and see him discover them and help save the world" it creeps me out because that is exaclty the kind of thinking that gets us a Disney-fied huggy Bambi-fied Sky High cheesey version of Superman that should not happen IMHO. If they want to see discovered powers and learning to used them watch Smallville. If they want a side-kick watch Batman and Robin.

I am sorry if that felt like a rant, but after seeing how the Batman franchise went down in greater flames than Superman 4 did to SUperman...i get very worried :( I don't want to have to wait 20 years in between Superman movies :(

So Superman is Spider-man???

Angst sucks :p

AAAGH!!

Are you trying ot give me a heart attack?!?!?!!...I'm getting closer (bit by painful bit) to accepting the kid and giving my trust to SInger and [more importantly] WB...why do you have to throw a monkey-wrench like that at me????:(

lol, okay.
See the movie before you say it is going to suck!
that's all I got.

almost doesn't count.

So Superman is Spider-man???

Look at the nice no-win situation you've set up for yourself. If he succumbs, he breaks up a family and he's selfish. If he does the noble thing, he's angsty spider-man and you'll hate it.

ANd we're not supposed to see that you're setting yourself up for disappointment?

That would be cool if they did it right.
