Superman Returns Re: The Offical Jason Appreciation Thread

I just hope WB doesn't go the comedy route and call the sequel "The Superman & Son Movie Spectacular".

Binker laughs at you

"HAHAHA"

Again....

"HAHAHA"

Anyway, the recent reviews on this thread seem to say that SR is good. Why is there confusion? I think its a case of Fans vs. Critics vs. the Audience.

Keep in mind, noone in the movie does it state or even imply that Lois has been dishonest with Richard about the kids paternity.
Lois and Richard could've gotten together while she was pregnant or soon after.
I lived with a girlfriend whos son called me Daddy even though he knew I wasn't so it's entirely reasonable that the kid would call Richard Daddy regardless of whether or not he knew who his real father was.

Why are you people even questioning the kid any longer...it's like a moot point. Nothing is going to be explained anyway.

i was thinking, i know singer and whoever else said 'vaugue history' and all that, but maybe superman and lois slept together outside of that one time in superman II in return's history?

i mean, lois didnt seem too shocked that the kid has powers, maybe she was prepared for the possibility? no memory kiss?

hopefully they adress it in the sequel.

Seems to me the fact of Supes and Lois getting it on was kinda common knowledge, so their 'vague history' musta included more than their FOS romp in II.

If you look at the prequel books, the ONLY movie they show in flashbacks is Superman: The Movie. And nothing from Superman II. And since the writers said "semi-sequel to the original Donner film, that would treat the Donner film as the origin". That would mean Superman II has NOTHING to do with Superman Returns, just Superman: The Movie.

And since its "semi", that would mean like saying "the origin story we'll be using for our film is from the first movie". Somethign like that.

Also, these prequels are pretty much canon to SR. I read the Lois Lane Prequel. Richard and Lois DID have sex and then the baby came out later. Now the kid could still be theirs and the point that the kid doesn't have powers (like the point I posted above).

Now, if the kid does have powers and Lois is stunned and KNOWS its Supes' child, then (with SII still out) maybe that prolly says that Superman and Lois did "hit the hey" in the times before he left.

Its things to think about and make sense after you figure it out.

She was shocked when she saw Jason throw the piano. And my guess is that she didn't know it was Supes' kid at first. Also, Lex thinks the kid looks like Supes, and then once he heard about the piano, he freaked and was sure they were next. Richard thought that Clark and Supes looked about the same height, and he and Lois laughed. My friend is saying Lois knows about the identities. Nope. Jason also sees the resemblance in Supes and Clark. Also, the kids last name is White. I think Richard will realize Lois doesn't love him as much as Supes, and then the kid thing he might figure out. So, Lex knows Jason is Supes son. Lois knows that the father of her son is not the man she thought he was. Clark knows he has a son, and didn't act on it. Jason knows he has powers, and my guess is that when he dropped his inhaler, he did it because he didn't need it at all.

The kid was good. Very good. This kid has a career ahead of him, cause he actually made the movie better.

LOL :D

I havent read the rest of this thread but can someone tell me: Has Singer confirmed when Superman and Lois did "it"? Was it S2 or was it an off-camera, post-S2/pre-SR consumation?

So where does this head to next, my friends?

Do they kill off the kid, does he don the tights next to dad, or is he written off the scripts entirely (shipped off to military school or something)?

How could Supes bang someone without accidentally thrusting with such force that he would kill his partner? And wouldnt he have some sort of "super sperm" that would show up in medical tests?

Here is how I see it:

Just by walking, Superman could destroy any sidewalks he stepped foot on. But he doesn't. He could break every pencil he ever tried to write with. But, he doesn't, nor does he smash his keyboard every time he types something.

Easy...

You do a take on the comic books' Crisis stories, and set Superman on a mission to battle a reality-threatening menace. The end result is that reality survives but history is rewritten. As a result Lois and Clark never had a kid and Lex is now a respected corporate tycoon. It would even allow for recasting, as Lois Lane becomes a feistier, more physically capable figure.

However, in order to make all of this dramatically satisfying the Brandon Routh Superman would retain vague memories of the previous reality, and an idea of what he would like to recapture from it.

Singer and co. can send me a cheque.

So, in other words, they'd be writing off the kid in the sequel. I doubt they'll do that in the direct sequel, maybe the 3rd/final one.

I see Jason being used as a protector of Lois in a roundabout way. Since he'll no doubt be nearing teenage years (depending on how much of a break will be written in for the sequel), Jason will probably fend off or be there to save his mom from an opposing force when Superman is off doing something else.

It's a head scratcher for sure.

Think about it...to me, Jason was kind of "distant' even "cold" in the movie...sure he had some comical lines, but I don't know, I kept getting an OMEN type vibe from him...maybe because I hadn't too long ago seen OMEN and because the KID practically ruined the whole movie for me. BUT, with that being said...could JASON be some type of ultra secret pet project of DARK SEID???

Or better yet, could JASON actually be DARK SEID, a new revised form of Dark Seid...not the ruler of Apocalypse like we know...something more grounded, and realistic. A new revision to the mythos.

That could be interesting, to have everyone think Jason is the son of Supes, only to have everyone discover that the kid is actually EVIL incarnate!!!

Or, you know, it could just be the undeveloped acting skills of a child.

Yeah, he ran over, hopped up and kissed Superman on the forhead. Drew a picutre of Superman saving him and his family for his mommy. Was the most polite kid ever....he's cold and distant.
