Real grappling gun

So I'm currently working on a spiderman web shooter project. For me it's more as a device for firemen, but so many people want to swing which is an absolutely AWFUL idea. Adhesives don't always work, and if they do, they will stick to your hands, and if you run out of fluid... well, you get the picture. So to combat that, I'm starting a forum that I almost will never add in on for a swinging device... THE GRAPPLING GUN.

So without further ado, the grappling gun:

yeah it exists. Let me tell you this though. They haven't invented a small enough winch to pull the line. You have to climb the rope, but you can swing.

I don't know man. I feel like that is mainly for higher speed. For what we are talking about, we need higher torque. I know jamie from the mythbusters made something like it.

Yeah I know that was what led me to that video. I was thinking we use the principles of speed from the youtube video to have a high enough speed to turn into torque. Lengthen the lever arm a little and increase the size and connections, and it should turn into what we're talking about, right? (By the way, what's the difference between the speed of this thing turning like in the video and torque?) I thought that speed is the key for carrying someone up like Batman. I mean, if Batman just used "pulling power" to get himself up to a rooftop, I think he would probably be way too slow (what's the point of having a grapnel gun if it takes you a full minute to climb three stories?)

I don't know though. the nail can hit 20,000 rpms, but consider the diameter of each motor. If your motor was as big as Jamie's motor, the mass would significantly slow it down. I'm not saying that you're wrong. It's a good way to start the ball rolling, but if what you're saying is true, we could just super juice a toy motor, add neodymium magnets, and add tons of reducers.

Ahh, I see what you're saying. So is my idea at the "Only can advance if tested" stage, or are we still going to come up with more blueprints?

Well, this isn't really a project I care about all that much. I just want to give swingers the ability to discuss a real project that could help them. I have only two ideas I want to put out for everyone here:

First, If you could rebuild jamie's rig, you could make a pistol sized potato launcher for the grappling hook. It would work with Co2. That, or you could make a powerful pump action spring pistol.

Second, if you only want to swing down, and not ascend up, you could always make a spool rig for your arm.

Maybe if we take a pistol and some how put the strong cable inside the gun and attach the hook to the end of the gun and tie it to the hook but inside the hook there will be a bullet trapper. When you shoot the pistol the bullet will push the hook up high depending on what type of pistol or hand gun you're using. It may sound far fetched but not impossible. There's a video of these high school students with a rifle instead of a pistol but it was a prototype and it looked way too big because it was for military uses not for swinging uses.
