STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Forget Smallville: A daring rescue at the scene of a West Brighton accident last night suggests the Man of Steel lives somewhere on Staten Island.

Homeward-bound Anthony Aceto, 37, of Grasmere, said he turned onto Bard Avenue from Clove Road and was confronted by the sight of a capsized minivan, with a woman trapped inside.

And he saw something else: A man prying open the sunroof with his bare hands to get the woman to safety.

"When I pulled up, it looked like an action movie and there was a superhero on top of the car trying to get the lady out," said Aceto.

"(She) was screaming and she was hysterical," he said. "The guy saved the lady. He pried open the sunroof and got her out of there."

Aceto said the Good Samaritan was actually bending the steering wheel so the woman could free her legs.

"He really put himself at risk, because there was sparks and gasoline all over the place. It was really, really crazy," he said. Aceto said the woman seemed fine but was taken to the hospital, likely as a precaution.

He described the rescuer as in his late 30s: "He was a good-looking Irish guy."

Aceto said he talked briefly with the man, who told him he lives on the Island and is an ironworker. And like any good superhero, the man split, without taking his richly deserved bow. If the Good Samaritan is reading this, he should give us a call and reveal his identity.

Cool.

Skeptics would point out that people have been known to have super-strength under pressure. However, I dout that's the case here. I just wanted to mention it first.

Wow, this is surprising.

Especially if you know anyone from Staten Island. :awesome:

Looks like Bruce Willis took his 'Unbreakable' role seriously. :awesome:

Oh and, Thor. YOU don't know what happened there. Only the people there do. PLEASE don't say it's a hoax until it's proven to be. I know you love to troll up a good thread but c'mon. This is just awesome.

Sounds like it may be hoax. Would be cool if it's real though.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm willing to believe this is real.

We do not have evidence to assume it is true. Only one witness and a bunch of wishful thinking.
However, on the off-chance it this WOULD be awesome.

Isn't there a lot of cases where a person in an extreme situation can do almost super-human things? I'm sure this could be one of the cases.

I already mentioned that:

Sounds believable, I'm sure an ironwoker can break off a sun roof. The bending the steering wheel part sounds a little fishy, I'd have to see pictures of how it looks now.

It was me. [blackout]Now give me my got-damn money. [/blackout]

So you're saying it's Namor then?

Why does this seem fake? Sounds totally plausible to me, and awesome. It's not like the guy lifted the damn minivan up or anything.
