Sequels Reboot?

But why do we need to recast Wolverine? could we not do an x-men movie without him?

as i said the origin trilogy will happen, you cant just have origin then the japan story we need a third, movies always run in three. Unless they were really bad, however the first sequel of x-men films seem to be ok, think x2 to x1. in theory, wolverine 2 should be better than origin wolverine.

Jackman - should be Wolverine for 8 more movies before the wolverine role is recasted. Hugh Jacman has 2 sequels to the wolverine origin stories, 3 x-men 4 to 6 then, and possible Days of Future past esque story of old logan.

That is absurd.

Here's one character other than Logan that is overrated when it comes to the X-Verse:

Sure he's the X-Men's archenemy, but I don't think he should appear in the first film (not even in a flashback). Just get some other archnemesis and save Mags for the sequel (ala Joker in BB and Morality in Sherlock Holmes).

Just leave a hint of him in towards the end (for example, there would a news report about a terrorist group called "The Brotherhood" destroying buildings and such).

And there's would be a post-credits scene like this:

if magneto was to be recasted with a similar looking actor id chose

John Hurt

The leather jumpsuits sucked. You didn't see the ff4 wearing leather jumpsuits in their movie. They wore ff4 -esque suits, and they weren't cheesy. Thor is in his costume and I'm sure cap will be in the red white blue. The point is you can make a superhero suit not cheesy.

They didn't make them "jumpsuits" in the second movie nor in the third. I mean, I'm not sure what your issue is....and I thought I heard them say that Captain America's outfit will be toned down a little--and it should be.

I think they did a great job of updating the X-suits, particularly for the third movie I liked what they did with them by adding a tad bit more variation in the individual outfits. The F4 was a slightly different situation and they worked their suits into the story and it made sense in the grand scheme of things. The X-Men are still a more combat and stealth-oriented team, so their appearance and their general clothing schemes of dark colors and protective padding makes more sense in relation to the other Marvel characters.

However, if a reboot/First Class throws that out of the window and takes the more color savvy and stylistic angle with the team, they will have to update the purpose of their suits and the respective tone of the film accordingly. This film will have an unique advantage to be set in the late 80s or so, so I would probably expect slightly more color and diversity in the uniforms anyway..

In a reboot I'd like to see something more like Storm's suit in X3 when they found Jean, but with some yellow added instead of the white for all members, but subtle stylistic differences with the highlights to kinda pay homage to the comics

They are central to the X-Men though. I can't imagine a credible X-Men without Cyclops and Charles. Plus, the actors and actresses are getting older, they probably won't want to come back. I can't see Halle Berry, Anna Paquin or Ellen Page being interested in coming back. So not only are we talking about important characters being dead, but we're also talking about a number of recasts at the same time. It's too much of a mess, there's no shame in rebooting a franchise if you've backed yourself into a corner in regards to furthering a story.

X3 was careless, it was very much a film that was made to bookend a stand alone trilogy. Fox thought that they could make a bunch of spin off films with the likes of Magneto but realised that stand alone characters wouldn't be enough to maintain interest. That's why Wolverine is littered with cameos from numerous characters. This is even more evident since they've attempted to get the ball rolling on First Class, where they could do a prequel to the X-Men 3 while having the convenient luxury/excuse of recasting all of the roles because the characters would be younger.

I bet anything that if First Class is a success they'll make a franchise out of it, where they'll basically be able to reboot the franchise without anyone giving a rats ass.

I think it's nonsense to say the X-Men couldn't continue without Cyclops and Xavier. In the comics, there have been periods where these characters have been absent. Many different teams have existed over the years.

In the films in particular, it's impossible to keep adding characters (which fans ask for) without sidelining or omitting other characters.

Also, I'd dispute the common accusation about 'needless cameos'. That's an oxymoron. Cameos are by their very nature needless; they are there to flesh out the mutant universe, hint at a wider world and give fans little gifts. Not all characters can be main characters, some will be secondary, some less than that. What's the harm in turning some of the other mutants from the comics into background figures, just to acknowledge the huge world that exists in the comic books?

And, as I've just said elsewhere on here, Fox always intended for X3 to close the trilogy so they could do prequels and spin-offs that were easier to arrange and didn't cost as much. This was deliberate. I see no problem in using other comic book characters in minor roles in these stories, to acknowledge the X-Men's vast mythos.

I know this isn't the best comparison, but if an X-Men 4 were to come on down the line, FOX could always go the route of TMNT and just switch up the format of the film (ie. make it a CGI film) and continue on the movie universe from there. I'm sure it'd be much cheaper to commission Berry, Paquin, Page, and the rest of the cast for voice-acting than for being on set for hours on end. Think of the graphics more like Beowulf or Avatar than the TMNT movie and it'd be a much more suitable exchange than simply recasting all the characters or having the actors appearing visibly aged.
