"REC revolves around a television reporter, Ángela, and her cameraman, Pablo, who cover the night shift in one of Barcelona's local fire stations. The firehouse receives a call from an old lady trapped in her house. When they arrive, and the firemen and the police break down the door, the old lady suddenly attacks and bites one of the policemen, and it is revealed that an unknown but virulent disease is infecting people, causing them to turn into infected cannibals. The police and military quarantines the building and the camera crew is trapped inside, constantly recording the mayhem that ensues."

(sorry, there's no subtitles, but you get the idea)

Has anyone else seen this? I just watched this and holy **** was it good. The last 10 min. was some of the most creepy/scariest things I've seen in a long time. Yes, it's a Spanish film and has subtitles, but don't let that stop you from seeing this. Unfortunetly, I don't know when it will be released in the U.S. Right now the only way to see it is if you download the torrent for the film, which most people who have seen it have done, since it's the only way of viewing it right now. But if it hits theaters, I'm definitely paying to see it, just for that theater experience. But man, try to find a way to see this movie. I was a little put off by the handheld camera perspective, but it works amazingly well in this movie. I can't say enough good things. First horror movie to scare me in a long time. Unfortunetly, it's being remade for America and it will be titled "Quarantine."

looks pretty cool, ill look for the torrent tomorrow.

Ok, I just read that they won't release the movie until after the remake is out, which will be in October. That's one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read.

i'll wait for the remake. that preview looked freaking cool, and scary as hell, but i hate subtitles. if i'm watching a movie, then i want to watch it... not read it. and the performances mean little to nothing when you can't understand a word they're saying. you can either look at their faces and expressions, or read what they're saying.

so, yeah. i'll definitely see the remake, depending on who's involved, of course.

I'm not reading promising things on the remake. Never heard of the director or any of the actors. It's ashame you hate subtitles, because there's no way the remake will be better than what I just saw.

IMDB link for the remake:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1082868/

Here's something interesting about the film:

"I saw REC last week at the viva film festival in Manchester, and have to say its one of the best and most intense films and horror films ive seen, the director was present, well one of the directors, Jaume Balagueró, and he explained that he gained or produced the intense performance from his actors by not telling them what was going to happen in the scene thereby what you see on screen is at times very real and intense emotions. He also stated that he payed a visit to the set of the remake and noticed that they where telling the actors what was going to happen in the scene, so it was all pre-planned thereby what you will see in the remake wont be as convincing or as memorable as the original. If anything the remake might make more people want to seek out the original when it is released!"

if the remake looks like it'll turn out crappy, i'll check out the original. but i just really, really hate subtitles, especially when there's something going on on the screen that i need to see, like, you know, action, acting, emotion, scenery, etc... basically the whole movie.

subtitles practically ruined pan's labyrinth for me. i had to watch the movie three times just to take everything in.

I don't have that problem. So, I don't know how you feel.

i don't know if any directors have used that trick before, but that is awesome! i may have to see this after all.

I'm pretty sure Wes Craven used that technique on the Scream films (I remember an interview with SMG to that effect about Scream 2). It's a damn good one though :cwink:.

This looks good, but I'm sure people will draw comparisons to Cloverfield and 28 days later. Out of curiosity when was this made and released?

It came out in November 2007. Honestly, the only thing good about the remake is that maybe it will get people interested in the original. But hey, if the remake turns out good, I'll eat my words and see it.

Cloverfield vibe obviously but looks pretty intense.

Trust me, this ain't like Cloverfield.

Whoah baby this looks wicked.

Not sure how to take that as i liked Cloverfield lol.

I liked Cloverfield too. But the only similarities between the two is the handheld camera perspective. I'm telling you, this movie was such a great surprise for me.

Whenever I think your comments cant get worse, you always surprise me and they do. Cutting yourself off from entire segments of film cause "you dont like none-a dat readin!" is incredibly stupid and shallow. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch Seven Samurai.

excuse me, guy, but i read quite a bit. i usually go through a book a week.

i thought i made my point pretty clearly: if i'm watching a movie, i want to watch it, and listen to it. it's not shallow to want to get absorbed in a movie, rather than get distracted from what's going on on the screen every3 seconds when i have to look down to read what i should very easily just be able to hear.

i'm not saying anything bad about foreign films, if you like having to choose between not watching what's going on on the screen to read what the characters are saying, or not knowing what the characters are saying so you can see the action/acting/emotion/etc... well, then good for you. there's no need to be a pretentious ass because i actually like to watch my movies rather than read them.

it really, really doesnt distract so much that you cant tell what's happening to glance down at the dialouge.
