Recent movies you highly anticipated but ended up hating

Hate's too strong a word. But I was certainly disappointed by Iron Man 2.

I can't think of anything since Spider-Man 3 that was as a big a disappointment for me. I think part of the reason is that because of Spider-Man 3 (and to a lesser extent, X-Men: The Last Stand), I've been a lot more apprehensive about movie sequels--even ones made by good directors--since then.

All the PotC sequels
Alice in Wonderland
Planet of the Apes

I'm one of the few who didn't genuinely hate GL. I was disappointed, yes, but my disappointment came from the fact that the movie wasn't longer and didn't have time to develop its potential. What scenes we *did* get turned out great, imho; it's just that the whole final product looked like somebody had fast-forwarded through all the good parts.

*Did* hate, after being hyped:

Spidey 3
Matrix 2 & 3
every POTC after the first
every TF after the first
XMO:W
X3
Superman Returns
Avatar
Watchmen
Paranormal Activity (didn't even bother with sequels)
The DaVinci Code
2012
Cloverfield
Live Free or Die Hard
Ghost Rider (haven't even tried the sequel)
the entire Second Trilogy of Star Wars
War of the Worlds
FF and FFROTSS

Here are some movies from last year that i'd been looking forward to but ended up hating:

Bellflower (I actually felt myself loosing self respect for not turning it off)
Super (turned it off)
The Guard (turned it off)
Rango (well not hate, but I found it really boring)
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (was actually yelling at the screen, and laughed my way through most of it)
Alice in Wonderland (turned it off)
Conan the Barbarian (turned it off)

Terminator Salvation. I don't even get why I even anticipated it. A giant transformer robot in a Terminator movie is a deal-breaker.

After the Watchmen trailer I was expecting a legendary film.

While I didn't hate the movie, it fell far short of those expectations.

For me it's AngHulk and nothing else comes close. I have never followed a movie through production so closely in all my life as it was the culmination of 3 decades of fanboy waiting by me. I guess TDK would be the runner-up but I hated AngHulk way, way, way more. Superman Returns was terribly disappointing but I can't say I hate it unlike AngHulk & TDK. SR was just boring beyond my capacity to have imagined such an outcome.

Okay your the fourth person I know of who disliked TDK..

out of the billions of people who live on Earth. :oldrazz:

I actually enjoy SM3 as flawed. At least I cared about the main characters, who lived/died and it had more a pulse than most summer movies. :oldrazz:

Movies I was looking forward to and felt extremely letdown by:

-Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (knew to avoid POTC4 after that)
-The Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions
-X-Men: The Last Stand
-Terminator: Salvation
-The Tree of Life
-The Kids Are All Right
-Robin Hood (2010)
-Cowboys and Aliens
-Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

There are probably more.

P.S. I'm surprised so many people listed Green Lantern. All the trailers made it look awful and...well it's no surprise that it was about on par with the Fantastic Four movies. AActually I take that back, it was more on par with Batman & Robin. But that's like being surprised that Transformers movies have no plots.

I'd say most are big GL fans. I know from personal experience how much it sucks to have your fandom object make it to the level of a big budget film and then end up totally sucking. Especially if you don't have many such properties to hang your hopes on.

Fair enough. I understand that. I'm going through that right now with a show I loved growing up being turned into parody. But I've lowered my expectations so I won't be very disappointed. ;)

I agree with this. I was so excited for TS it was almost physically painful when the negative reviews started to come in.

As soon as McG was announced as the director I knew not to get my hopes up for that one. He couldn't even measure up to Jonathan Mostow, let alone Cameron.

Terminator Salvation.

Most movies I don't get overly hyped for, and luckily the ones I do turn out meeting my expectations. This is the only film I had TDK-level hype for and failed.

Cowboys vs. Aliens
Green Lantern
Spider-Man 3 (entertaining, but still disappointing)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The Prestige, pretty much a textbook of how NOT to do a twist ending type of film.
