Jesus...hollywood is just getting out of hand

Robert Rodriguez is going back to the very successful and lucrative preteen movie well. At an SXSW press conference for his much-anticipated film Predators, he revealed that he’ll be rebooting the Spy Kids franchise. According to The Playlist, Rodriguez explained it’ll be set 10 years in the future. He added, “Let's revitalize it with a new cast and some amazing kids and that maybe doesn't sound as good as it sounds, but when you read the script it's very funny. It's not like we're going back to the well for a fourth time. It feels actually completely new.” Rodriguez will direct the reboot as his next project, and in doing so, has abandoned any chance of directing the planned Jetsons film, to which he was previously attached.

Rodriguez has shown he can take almost any movie genre (Western, horror, action, kids action, crime thriller) and make it a success. Rebooting Spy Kids, while seemingly an odd choice, means Rodriguez will work in a more advanced form of 3-D than his previous attempts (Spy Kids, Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl). And say what you want about the Spy Kids series; it’s been generally well received among critics and box office cash registers alike.

As much as I would have liked to see a Rodriguez-directed reimagining of Cosmo G Spacely or Astro the Dog, going back to something that’s been successful in the past is a no-brainer for a director who just makes movies work.

I thought that girl was hot in the originals when i was younger... I had bad taste as a kid

I think it's just about time for Robert Rodriguez to just drop out of the film-making buisness, dont you?

i know these movies are harmless in theory but I think they kinda throw Robert off track from his other - and more interesting - movies like his 'Blade Runner' inspired Sci-Fi flick or SIn City 2.

Whoa, that's a little harsh. I think he just needs to stop making kids movies, because those are the only things he's done that suck. "Spy Kids", "Sharkboy and Lavagirl", "Shorts"? All garbage. But the El Mariachi trilogy, "From Dusk Till Dawn", "Sin City", "Planet Terror"? All awesome. "Machete" looks good too.

Damn you guys are a little harse. The guy is doing these movies for his kids. Sure he does do other movies like Sin City and Predators and Machette. But if he wants to do movies for his kids let him.

Not gonna lie, this isn't a good idea. I mean who aksed for a fourth Spy Kids movie?

Hey, I liked them. I thought 3D was cool....when I was 10.

exactly. we pretty much closed the books after the 3rd flick, Imo

this is a terrible idea...and i may be the only one but i think machete looks awful.

Spy Kids reboot?

Urgh Rodriguez, please just skip this and give us Sin City 2 instead. :cmad:

The world needs movies like this, honestly, much more than, say, whatever the Disney Channel is putting out. For a half dozen reasons. Also, it doesn't sound like Rodriguez has said reboot, it sounds like those are entirely cinema blend's conclusion based on... the fact that its restarting.

Anyone can make Sin City 2, but quality kids movies, especially ones that aren't whitewashed, I'm 100% behind it.

EDIT: I'd even go so far to say that the idea of "If he's not making movies I like, he should quit" is incredibly elitist.

What he needs to do is either Sin City 2 or Deadpool (if the rumors of him being in the running are true)

Deadpool could be cool, not a big fan of him though. It's been five years since Sin City came out, I'm not impatient or so but I'd rather not wait that long for a sequel.

The first one was actually decent. It was just the other two where the quality was just..lacking.
