I fully understand that the accident which created Doctor Manhattan was a complete accident, but within the context of the movie, or for the book for that matter, couldn't scientists duplicate another being just like him using the same intrensic field process?

Yes, Dr. Osterman was able to recreate his humanoid form over the course of a few weeks, but he's no different than any other intelligent person that's aware of the human anatomy. Could it be that his will to survive drove him to coalescing his molecules, or some other conscious, psychological, or physiological explanation.

Either way, humanity has the tools to duplicate the same type of accident/experiment and create more...

Thoughts?

well...although maybe they could duplicate it...only people that arent afraid of death would try it....plus...its just a gn/movie...

My memory could be completely faulty here, but I think that doctor who wrote a chapter about DM said it was a one-in-a-lifetime accident so I just assumed it couldn't be duplicated.

Yeah. I've been told that Jon was a very rare case. It was like, a one in a billion kind of thing..

and in a spiritual sense, it probably had to do with his former upbringing with his father being a watchmaker and all....ya know, about putting the pieces back together again.

I don't think you can just determine yourself together after something like that .

it was a fortunate accident...just like if anyone else got bitten by a radioactive spider they would die, or bombarded by gamma rays or cosmic rays

Not really a fortunate accident seeing as Dr. M is a tragic figure. He has all the powers of a god but lost his humanity in the process.

On the bright side.....Dr. M could always clone himself and create his own entertainment group. He could call it......Blue Man Group!! :o

plus.....he could do all the special effects himself.........:oldrazz: :woot:

If given the same opportunity to be Manhattan, hell yeah I'd do it in a milisecond... To hell with over rated humanity, when I could travel the universe and gain infinite knowledge, encounter infinite lifeforms, and truly become the smartest being in the universe.

I second that.

I agree with this explanation. I guess Jon was in the right place at the right time for this "perfect accident" to take place.

it was fortunate in the fact that he didnt die and gained powers much in the same way most accidental superheroes do.

Take Bruce Banner another tragic hero. Anyone else would have been incinerated by the gamma radiation but there was something about Bruce that created the Hulk
