Reminiscence (Hugh Jackman)

Saw this coming from a mile away. Add it to the pile of terrible Warner Bros movies that will fortunately be coming to HBO Max!

This sounds like a Christopher Nolan movie, directed and written by someone who lacks his refined sensibilities. Which isn't a surprise considering. Also I am going to be real, I never trust anything Hugh Jackman is in. I have always liked him, but he also always feels like the third or fourth option for a movie where a better leading man passed, probably because of the script.

Geez. The whole HBO Max thing is just looking more and more like a way for WB to dump a year’s worth of movies that were either total garage or definite financial bombs (or both).
It's really starting to feel that way, isn't it? Even Dune probably wasn't going to do great at the box office and considering I've seen almost no-one talk about Suicide Squad, I'm not so sure it would have done all that well either way. Matrix 4 might be the only outlier, really.

As far as this movie goes, I'll probably check it out Friday and see for myself. Based on what I've seen it just sounds pretty generic but I like Jackman and Ferguson

Transcendence 2.0 it is.

Well, if you're a DC fan at all, HBO Max is great. I've enjoyed riding the nostalgia train for all the Batman movies and the animated series. Seeing Lynda Carter's WW takes me back to childhood.

I see what you're saying about the new films though. I just see the worth of HBO Max from another angle.

Yeah, there’s some good DC content on there. But so many of these new releases just appear to be films that are either bad (MK, WW84, GvK, this movie apparently) or ones that probably would have tanked at the box office regardless of quality (The Suicide Squad, Dune).

Would you say the same thing happens with Disney+? Would Luca, Cruella, and Raya be considered good movies? It's tough for me to tell if they "performed well" in theaters when taking Covid into consideration.

Maybe that's not the best comparison since those Disney flicks have a wider target audience than MK, Suicide Squad.

I agree that WB hasn't been churning out award winners by any means. However I did think the masses mostly enjoyed GvK and MK. Maybe that's a misconception on my end.

Luca, Cruella and Raya were all really good, especially the two animated ones. Cruella was slightly above average but better than I expected and overall just a fun time.

GvK did pretty well at the box office too, all things considered.

Hmm, from what I remember the script is nothing alike. The climate change thing with the water was a background thing. This is more of a film noir type set in the future and whatnot, but don't remember the script having that much action scenes as the trailer shows, which seems like more than few things were changed. I actually liked the script. Eh.

D+ has had misses too, though I can’t speak for the films you mentioned since I haven’t seen them. People did seem to like GvK, yes… I would even count myself among those people but I wouldn’t say it was “good.” It was more of a guilty pleasure than anything else. MK was awful through and through though and I don’t think many people likes it.

Bless you Hugh Jackman. You have the worst agent. Or a terrible taste in scripts.

I think Jackman isn't really consider in the top A actor/star. He always seems like the fourth choice. Bless him tho! The man did Logan, The Prestige, Prisoners, and came in at the last minute for Aronofsky. Brad Pitt walked out of The Fountain with one week left to begin shooting.

This could well be the case. Hard to know what's landing on his desk cause he's made some great films but chosen some right stinkers too. Musicals have kept him eating for a while. I wouldn't mind seeing Hugh Jackman in something nasty, playing a real b*stard.

I still dream of a proper Dark Tower adaptation with Jackman as the lead. He would be the perfect age for it now too.

Dull... mediocre.

Cool concepts, it was shot well and had some solid cinematography but the script needed a lot of work for this to become anything above average.

This was 5/10 material (:down ) not rewatch ( or :up: ) material. Bummer that this neo-noir wasn't something exceptional beneath the flashy veneer but I've definitely seen a lot worse like Flashback ( :down:down ) which was a little similar but beyond annoying, confusing, and unwatchable to the point of laughter. Ditto for The Woman in the Window ( :down ).
