Repossession Mambo ...cough ripoff cough

Wow. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed. They're not even trying to hide it. I wonder what they can do with "Cats".

Cat People arz a Rip-off! No Cheeseburgerz 4 U!!!

How about that skit in Monty Python's Meaning of Life? They were some kinda "repo men" taking people's organs. Can't remember it correctly. It's been a while since I last watched it.

I never cared for Repo!, but Repo Men looks badass.

Repo Men looks contrived, and where most people don't give a crap, anyone who knows better will see it as the rip-off that it is. Honestly, I hope it get's just moderate success, especially given the current economic climate, a movie about men hacking out repossessed mechanical organs may not be a topic people want to visit.

Well, Repo was more about you miss your organ payments and the Repo-man comes to cut it out of you (same concept as Repo-men), with a side story about a sick daughter, and a megalomaniac and his 3 psycho kids. Repo: The Genetic Opera is not about Bounty hunter/ cop's coming to take your time-traveled to the future healthy body to get brain-wiped and reprogrammed with an old mans mind so he can live longer, so your analogy fails completely. It's like saying E.T. is a Rip-off of Alien.
It doesn't. The concept of your body not being your own and having someone else with a claim on it with special people that hunt down anyone who messes up... sounds exactly like the concept that Repo used. Repo just went somewhere else with it.

But you just did. There was.

So. People really need to stop complaining that their un-original mediocre musical is being 'ripped off'.

I agree with Gilpesh. Repo being a musical doesn't mean the concept of it is original.

Wow, that's a pretty big jump if you actually hold plots next to each other. But anyway, your negative, bitter bias is loud and clear in your quote below.

And your "LALALALA, can't hear you" bias is loud and clear in the fact that you still haven't responded to the guy who brought up (and is correct) that Monty Python had organ repo-ing.

Well, why stop there, Gil? I'm sure there are other films, books, and TV shows that have had stories dealing with people having organs repossessed since it's so "unoriginal". Start throwing them up, since your gunning for it to be so true you are willing to put out Freejack as an example...

Well, to be fair, if I remember correctly, the Monty Python guys weren't so much Repo Men as they were guys who come to take organs from registered donors. The twist is that the people are still alive.

Just saw this movie last night and I didnt really care for it. Seemed waaaay too predictable.

A lot of people have complained about it being a ripoff of The Genetic Opera, but I was more offended by it ripping off something else

MAJOR SPOILER
The last 30 minutes of the film feature the main character escaping a trap set by his friend, saving the woman he loves, and going off to live happily ever after.....but then we find out he's in a dream-like state and the whole escape is only part of his imagination, he's in the custody of the evil corporation he worked for and his happy ending is only in his mind. A ripoff of the ending of the Terry Gilliam film 'Brazil"

Yeah, I agree. The "twist" was cheap and uninspired. I didn't mind the movie otherwise really, but that totally ruined it for me.

They are the same concept but the similiarity stops there. Repo! is pretty much a crappy, wanna-be Tim Burton movie that not even Anthony Stewart Head could save from total suckage. Repo Men on the other hand didn't try to be pretentious with an obviously ridiculous premise (unlike Repo which tried to preach to the audience how much smarter than us it is). It just had fun with it. And it was a solid, fun, action movie. Until the twist. Kinda killed it for me. I hate deus ex twists. :(

I haven't seen Repo Men yet, but the director said the film is a black comedy, and that he took influence from Brazil and A Clockwork Orange. From what I've heard, it's pretty obvious?

I am happy this film bombed so badly.

Guess in tough economic times, organ repossession was a tough sell.

Avatar is such a ripoff of so many things, yet it gets a pass from many people around here, so yeah...not really caring if this seems original or not.

About the movie...

I thought it was great.

- Familiar "little man vs. corporation" story, but handled very well.
- Really well done action/fights.
- Great eclectic soundtrack.
- Very dark sense of humor.
- Excellent acting all around. Both Jude and Forrest have great chemistry. Liev Schreiber at his slimy best.
- Surprising but very well done Oldboy "hallway fight" homage.
- A hell of an ending to top of a great movie.

The ending might be one of those "love it or hate it" things, but I personally loved it, even if the idea has been done before.

I'll get this on DVD.

I actually liked this movie so much, I almost want to create a new thread about it, one that doesn't have a bias so goddamned obvious on the goddamn title.

You know your movie sucks when it has 'Opera' in the title and the music is goddamn awful.

Mr Repetez si vous plait, allahi allah wah rahmatullah... Peace be upon rasool

look in all honest, this film is about Shetan, the devil... so they need not make this film to glorify clowns as Shetan...

You know how you know your movie sucks? When it is given a wide release with a full promotional push and it still bombs horribly.

The Thing bombed.
Slither bombed.
The Iron Giant bombed.
Fight Club bombed.
Office Space bombed.
Donnie Dark bombed.
Blade Runner bombed.

You didn't like Repo Men? That's kool & the gang, but stop using this "it flopped so it sucked" argument.
Box office does not mean "good movie".
