What did everyone think of this film? I really liked the movie when it first came out and I had a chance to catch it on HBO the other day. Personally,I think that "Empire Strikes Back" is the best Star Wars film, but I think I like this one better just because of how dark it gets. With the exception of the opening battle, the beginning of the film is kinda like the previous two(Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones). Nothing very special here and the acting and dialouge is bad,but once Anakin starts turning and Darth Sidious begins to emerge, then the film REALLY gets good. Hayden Christiansen is better here than the previous movie(although he still could've been alot more menacing and sinister)but the person who makes the movie for me is the Emperor himself. He is so freakin evil in this movie and he has my attention everytime he's on screen.
The film itself,at least for me,shows Darth Vader as a tragic figure. Here was a man who had great power,a nice life, was in love with a beautiful women and was well respected by the Jedi. Then,by the end of the movie he's evil and his soul is filled with hatred,he's lost his only true love and his body is mutilated beyond reason. Quite a fall from grace, huh?
Out of 5 stars,I would give this film 4 and 1/2.

It sucked all kinds of ass. So much potential, but then Lucas just gave us another steaming pile of crap. The Jedi went down like *****es, the dialog and acting was embarrassing as ever, and there was even more pointless and poorly done CGI in this movie than the two previous films combined.

It left so many loose ends, but the final kick in the crotch is how they fu**ed with stuff that already happened! The found a way to add plotholes to the original three films! It just sickens me.

But all in all, a great film. :p

It was okay, except for all the CGI.
Oh, and the terrible casting, script, and direction.

I really enjoy this movie.

I personally liked it alot. Loved the 'dark' tone of the film.

There's no way it could've been good because George f***ed up the build up to Anakin's turn in the first two.

But yeah, I don't think we've had enough discussion about Revenge of the Sith since it came out, so please, continue.

I liked ROTS.

It was next action summer blockbuster and the final part in the whole SW franchise.

Of course, cast and script weren't so good aspects in this movie. But there was enough action and beautiful scenery. Besides, I liked the editing and final battle between Anakin and Obi-Wan.

I really wish Lucas didn't f**k up that Obi/Anakin duel by splicing the Yoda/Crazy dood in between, it could have been so much better. But bleh, this is Lucas. Still though, I liked it for what it was.

Still hilarious about that birth plothole though, lol. :o

The best one of the prequels... but that's not really saying much. It still suffers from many of the problems AOTC had (wooden acting, poor dialogue and CG overload among other things), and Anakin's turn seemed abrupt and generally poorly executed to me.
General Grievous gave the impression from trailers and whatnot to be quite the badass character... instead he was just bad.

I didn't much care for the revelation that Darth Vader (who I had always seen as a ruthless, unfeeling badass) was actually at one time, a whiny, lovesick *****.

Like others have mentioned, Anakin's turn was too abrupt and the Jedi seemed awfully stupid, even blissfully ignorant.

At least it was better than the first two prequels.

It ended too fast and had too many special effects...other than that...I loved it and shed a tear at the end...if your a Star Wars fan and didn't like this movie...well, oh well I say...oh well. What can you do? Nothing...they're Lucas' movies and we let him tell the story this time. So, I can only wonder what V and VI would have looked like if he'd directed those too. Ya ever think of that?

I really hated it, myself. I don't like outright bashing things, but suffice it to say, I really can't say it was much better than the first two, and really...hammered home to me just how - IMO - disrespectful and tarnishing the prequels were for the original films.

its ok. it generally over rated cause it is billed as the best of the prequels. people just fail to realize how little that says.

It's the best of the prequel trilogy which is in no way meant to be a compliment. At least Anakin finally looked the part in this one. The dialogue in general was unbelievably poor while some of the action scenes were good. I was expecting the opening space sequence to blow me away and it started well but then petered out.

If the first two had lived up to expectation (or if the first one had just never happened at all) everything here would have held the appropriate level of significance. The birth of Darth Vader should have been one of the most iconic film moments ever but it was all too little too late.

If ROTS is treated as a stand alone film by someone who has never seen another Star Wars film there are many positives but it's otherwise very hard to enjoy knowing how badly the prequel trilogy cocked up.

Very true. I kind of doubted Christensen as an actor until I saw him in 'Shattered Glass' (pretty good flick). The blame for Ep. III lies solely w/ George Lucas and his inability to guide his actors. He just leaves them out there on life support and his dialogue jokes:

Ex: The terribly placed/executed joke/misunderstanding between Anakin and Padme where they blah, blah, blah about 'love.'

[sidestory: When I went to see Batman Begins shortly after SWIII came out, one of my friends who's a huge SW fan tried to tell me that the 'Finders Keeper' bit in Begins was worse than that ridiculous 'love is blind' exchange between Anakin and Padme.'] I'm not saying that the Finders Keepers thing wasn't borderline campy, but having grown adults deliver that kind of line (in SW) was questionable imo. I guess diehard SW fans will defend the 'Flanneled one' at all costs.

Despite this and the infamous "NoOoOoOoO!!!!", the scenes w/ the Emporer are very well done (w/ the exception of the hissing during the Windu fight-the emporer's a feline?). The scene where Padme looks back to Obi-Wan standing at the entrance of her ship gave me chills on my first view - it's still one of my favorite scenes - and it's a nice beginning to the inevitable fight.

Honestly, I liked the saber scene the most[wished it was longer]; I found the beginning of the film very difficult to watch w/ repeated viewings. I didn't like the way Count Dooku and Grievous were handled.

I don't really think that anyone cared about the Medoclorian(sp?) relevance or a lot of the things that happened in Episode 1. I kind of wish that we had witnessed an improved Ep. 2 as the first film seguing into the current Ep. 3 as the second prequel. That way, we could see Vader(in the suit) in action, learn about lesser known characters in the Star Wars galaxy(instead of seeing a tv show about them)SW species, and have better story continuity in the 3rd and final prequel.

<if you're a real nit-picker, then you see the glaring holes in the timeline and the endless debate about whether or not Anakin restored balance to the force aka is there balance w/ no evil presence or is the balance determined by the absence/but possibility of evil? etc. . . .>

I enjoyed all of the movies, but it was more for the sentimental effect of seeing the originals on VHS at an early age.

Believe it or not, the first Knights of the Old Republic game had a better storyline than any of the movies.

ESB is my fav and it probably has to do w/ the fact that it wasn't written by Lucas - (I wish that another person had written or at the very least, revised the 3rd one. It could've been special)

ILM did some pretty nice special effects for the 3rd film though, but as a whole, I was disappointed w/ the writing and the direction, yet I'm still glued to the screen if I see the last 30 minutes of it.:o

1st 2/3's of it::down
Right before Obi-Wan jumps on Padme's ship - the end::up:
imho.:)

The worst scene in ROTS was the beginning of battle between Yoda and Emperor. There was one shot with Empreror falling from his chair. It looked so dumb and so campy :down

No. That was no where near as bad as:

ANAKIN: You are so beautiful!

PADME: It's only because I'm so in love . . .

ANAKIN: No, it's because I'm so in love with you.

PADME: So love has blinded you?

ANAKIN: Well, that's not exactly what I meant . . .

PADME: But it's probably true!

They laugh.

I really hated the Emperor's new makeup, I mean why couldn't they just leave it the way it was in ROTJ, is it too much to ask! As a whole ROTS sucked but it was much better than EP 1 & 2. If only Peter Jackson+WETA directed the prequels...DAMN!! if only.

oh! man! that must be one of the worst dialogue in cinematic history. I mean WTF, what the hell is wrong with GL?

And now, Revenge of the Sith in 1 minute...

Anakin: "I see a vision of my pregnant wife in great pain! Surely, it means she dies!"
Padme: "You sure it wasn't a vision of me in labor?"
Anakin: "I have to find a way to bring Padme back from the dead!"
Padme: "Uh... still alive, here."
Palpatine: "Join the Dark Side. We have ways of bringing people back from death. We can also create people from scratch, like you."
Anakin: "What?"
Palpatine: "Nothing. Go kill a bunch of kids to prove your loyalty to me."
Anakin: Then you'll bring my wife back from the dead?"
Padme: "Still alive..."
Obi: "Anakin! You've gone too far!"
Padme: "He's right, Ani."
Anakin: "Padme, I'm doing this for you! If you won't join me, I'll just have to choke you to death!"
Padme: "Ack! Death!"
Obi: "Don't attack me, Anakin. I have the high ground."
Anakin: "Ack! Critical injury!"
Doctor: "Padme has given birth, but she died soon after."
Obi: "Complications during birth?"
Doctor: "No."
Yoda: "To death, she was choked?"
Doctor: "No. She was at 100% perfect health when her body just gave out on her. Never seen anything like it before."
Obi: "The Jedi HMO sucks."
Darth Vader: "Where's Padme? I went evil just to help her, you know."
Palpatine: "You choked her at the beginning of the 3rd Act, remember? You killed children for her, and you choked your pregnant wife when the thought of dead children repulsed her for some reason. Women, am I right?"
Darth Vader: "NOOOO!"
END

Yeah, there are enough bad scenes in this movie :(

82% rottentomatoes, it must be good!

*Watches movie*

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooope.

the Darth Vader "noooooooooooooo" was the funniest thing I've ever seen. Really though, it wasnt great, but it was better than those first 2 pieces of crap he gave us.

Revenge of the Sith 2005? Not to be confused with the other Revenge of the Sith?

Joke, I commend people adding dates when they write a film title.
