Reviewing Marvel Comics a Week Early

P.s.

Thunderbolts issue coming out Wednesday is also excellent!

More advance mini reviews :D

As always an questions on specifics and such are welcome :)

Agents of Atlas 7
Pretty good issue. Kinda funny that Namor's got one romance goin on here while he's got one also goin on with emma frost in other series.
7.5/10

Deadpool merc with a moutn #1
pretty entertaining. If you're a deadpool fan I highly recommend picking it up. I prefer more serious comics generally but still quite enjoyed it.
7/10

Exiles 4
About the same as the previous issues have been. Pretty good, but some fairly obvious "twists"
7/10

Fantastic Four 568
Ugh. Alright, they need a new creative team desperately. One that doesn't think crapping on classic characters is the only way to build up new, uninteresting ones.
5.5/10

Invincible Iron man 15
Really good issue! I'm interested in seeing where they take the character from here, but also in how they inevitably return him to his status quo.
Good ish though
8.5/10

War of Kings 5
Meh. Just waitin for them to kill Vulcan at this point.
6/10

uncanny x-men 513
Was good, but not as good as that introductory "utopia" issue. Hoping the upcoming issues offer a little more versus action and a little less buildup/explanatory dialogue. And I REALLY wanna see how the X-Men put up a fight against the SENTRY (can u say massacre?)
7.5/10

Okay, Ms Marvel #41 comes out Wednesday.
Here's a spoiler that's pretty obvious if you read last issue, it's also incredibly stupid and lazy writing:
Carol Danvers is back to life on the last panel of this issue. That's right, she's been dead for a whole, what, 2... 3 months maybe? Friggin pathetic. No wonder Bendis hasn't bothered writing her out of New Avengers yet. Whoever wrote this whole idea, AND whichever editor okayed this idea, should be shot.
Okay, not shot, but not allowed to work again with supervision.

Just a few quick comments about Wednesday's comic:

1) Avengers: Initiative. I didn't think it was possible, but this issue's final scene makes me really like Tigra as a character. I've always thought she was lame, but my mind has been changed (at least for now). Any Tigra fans should check it out.

2) Spidey 600. I was not impressed. Nothing monumental about the story. There's a little "progression" that won't actually change anything. I hate JRjr's art (admittedly alot seem to like it though). And MJ appears for all of 1 panel. Not worthy of a milestone issue, definitely not worth the price tag.

3) Hulk 600. I had hoped they'd reveal who Rulk is so people would hopefully stop reading about that terribly atrocious character, but alas they don't. I suppose if you've been liking the Rulk issues you'll like this one. That's about it.

I can't help but wonder why Marvel seems to keep thinking that these "milestone" issues should be put together like one of those anthology series that no one ever buys. Even if u like the Rulk, who the heck wants that stupid new She-Hulk character to get a backup story? Doesn't she still have her own series to put that crap in? (though that series is quickly dying I'd guess). And if not, shouldn't Marvel take no one buying it as a friggin hint.

I think that series is only a mini. It's looking like she's probably going to be the She-Hulk in the Incredible Hulk She-Hulk back-up, though :(

It's one of the worst ideas of the year IMO..

who needed a new she hulk?

Question about Hulk 600 Random_Havoc: It looks like the issue will FINALLY explain what the heck went on between the end of WWH and Hulk #1...does the issue at least deliver on that promise? Cause i really really would like some closure as to what the hell happened at the end of WWH.

Yeah it does do that. The explanation is nothin special imo opinion, but it does give one.

Here's what they say, in brief, if anyone wants to know (spoiler obviously):
-Basically they explain that after WWH Thunderbolt Ross was given Banner and was to take him to a Shield facility, but it's revealed that Ross has actually betrayed the government and instead took Hulk to an AIM facility where they began working on a gamma powered super soldier. Modok is even included (why do they keep using such a stupid character?).
-Also among this issues "highlights" (yeah, that's sarcasm) is the Rulk draining banner of his gamma radiation I guess and declaring that Banner can never become Hulk again. Also the Abomination decides to save Doc Samson and She-Hulk from an explosion out of the goodness of his heart.
Like I said, I wasn't impressed. But you might enjoy it more if you've been reading Rulk (though that is a sin in and of itself lol)

Wait...thats it?? They don't explain how Rick Jones went from almost dead at the end of WWH to "A-BOMB"?? They dont explain why Hulk's dumb again?

The thing I don't get is it's not like Jennifer is suppose to be dead, MIA or depowered or anything like that. As far as I'm aware she's still very much around and active. So I don't really understand why she's being referred to as She-Hulk. I'm not sure if they refer to her as that in her mini, but the book is still called it and it looks like she'll probably be the one in the "She-Hulk" back-up. That's what I don't really understand. Seems they would have better luck calling it [Her Name]: Daughter/Child of Hulk, like they did with Skaar

Nope. They don't. Instead we get
Rulk again being stupidly too powerful, and this time magically having the ability to drain gamma energy out of Banner, and we get abomination saving a couple superheroes. Sorry, wasn't he supposed to be a murderous villain?

As for the She-Hulk thing, what makes it even more ******ed is they have the real She-Hulk (jennifer obviously) in the issue's main story, and the new lame one in the backup, but both with the same superhero name.
It's pointless and stupid.

Just call Lyra Ginger-Hulk like the rest of us. Saves you some confusion and derides Lyra a bit by refusing to acknowledge her as She-Hulk. Win/win.

Thank you Random Havoc, you just saved me 5 bucks. Despite my hatred for Loeb's Hulk book, i was going to buy #600 regardless because i was hoping to get some answers from WWH, but now i see that we're not even getting that. Screw Loeb. Seriously.

Glad to help.

And also always happy to dissuade people from supporting anything Loeb's written :D

Let's roll this ol' thread out one more time...

Dark Avengers/ X-Men: Exodus
A conclusion with ups and downs to it. Overall though I'd say it's like Civil War in that there's a whole lotta build up without enough bang at the end... The fight could've easily stretched 2 issues and been much better.

Dark Reign: The List: Avengers
Should've just been properly called The List: Hawkeye. Was still pretty good overall.

Marvels Project 2
The golden age retro stuff has all been done before, and better. It's alright if you want yet another re-hash of the Marvel golden.

Nomad 1
Thought they'd tie her into the overall marvel u somehow, but basically they turned it into a teen high school superhero story. Fun read but nothing special.

Thunderbolts 135
I loved this ish. Could be amazing or terrible depending on the followup though.

War of Kings Who will rule
Fairly predictable

Ultimate Comics Avengers 2
Tony has a richer smarter amoral brother that just HAPPENED to never be mentioned before. ******ED!!!!!!
This ish was otherwise okay, but still waiting for it to really grab my attention like Ultimates 1 and 2 did.

I really can't buy this supposed Hawkeye/Osborn rivalry that Bendis is trying to whip up.

Marvel Projects 2: I find this comment interesting as I like the setup of this. Can you refer me to what's been done before and better ?

I really can't buy this supposed Hawkeye/Osborn rivalry that Bendis is trying to whip up.

I think Bendis has done it fairly decently not as a rivalry between them so much as it is that Hawkeye is just really ticked to see a villain win and no hero doing anything about it.

What I think IS unbelievable is the idea that the best option all the other avengers can come up with is: Well, we're against going to kill him, so I guess we'll just sit around and do absolutely nothing at all.

I won't spoil anything but it's also pretty unbelievable how well hawkeye does in this issue at certain points. Vague enough for ya lol

I might've been being a touch harsh, as the marvel golden hasn't been quite so focused on before, but with the beginning of the classic "Marvels" doing such a good job covering the golden age and with the excessive number of golden-age focused one shots they're putting out these days this series is coming at a time when I'm already tired of seeing this stuff.

As with all mini-series though you can't really know whether it's good or not until you've read the whole thing, and maybe this one will have some great twist at some point. But for now it's just the same ol' origins and backstories that we all already know just shown from a slightly different angle.

Yeah I was planning on just buying the Marvels Project when it comes out in trade. I get why they're doing it but they kinda picked a weird time to do it IMO. I agree with you that its been done before and I don't really feel like superheroes in the Marvel Universe need to be explained for some reason, but it could still be a good read when it wraps up.

They picked Marvel's 70th anniversary to do it. Sort of fits with the theme since it's going all the way back to the beginning of Marvel's comics.

good point I just keep forgetting cause i see Dark Reign banners on comics way more that the 70th anniversary boxes around the numbering.

I remember because I always take a look at those 70th anniversary one-shots resurrecting old series.
