I will not go as far as to say this guy is my hero, I however will say I look up to him and believe me there aren't that many people on this globe I look up to especially when it comes to reason and logic thinking.
What gets me in his side is how irattnal thinking has become the normal standard. Or maybe has always been the normal standard. Why is it ok to think up facts or have blind faith? I myself come from a family where religion is a big factor, my parents even believe in voodoo, so do my other siblings by the way. So you can see it coming, I'm the weird one, I'm the black sheep. :woot:

About a year ago I heard of this man named Richard Dawkins.
I believe it was at a blog I frequent, he was getting alot of hype and heat with his upcoming book at that time, the god delusion. I checked many video blogs on the guy and found out to my surprise that his logic is rather solid. So far I have to admit the guy is a genuis, when it comes to logic and reason I fail to see anyone out there in the open that can rival his scientific attitude and intensity. Richard Dawkins in his own mind is really in a fight for science and while looking around my own environment I have concluded that he is absolutly right. We as in the human race are absolute morons. Many of us don't quit get it. Just this week a new docu he made started airing in Great Britain, about the supernatural. Some funny stuff but then again it's always funny to see that 1 plus 1 makes 2. Unlike Christopher Hitchens, Dawkins actually makes a bit of sense. Christopher almost seems angry.

You should check out his new docu if you get the chance.
It's called: The Enemies of Reason

When I first read the title I thought you were talking about Darryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins. Hehe! :D

i haven't read anything by hawkins but i've seen videos of him speaking and he is quite brilliant, if not bit arrogant.

hitchens is a drunken a-hole, though.

Can't say I'm a fan of Dawkins. His thoughts on the nature-nurture debate hinge way too much on the genes.

Well if nature is the fruit of reality then nature only cares about the seeds.
Seeds being the genes.

Your thoughts?

I thought this was going to be a thread about the family feud host, but that's richard dawson

That's what I thought at first too, and even if he was drunk all the time and trying to rape all of the women (and some of the men) that was some good tv. There need to be more game show hosts like him, you know give you a little something extra to watch. Besides, I always thought Dick Dawson would be a great porn name.

I always liked it when he yelled "Survey says!!!!!"

I've known of Dawkins for quite some time but never really delved into this stuff other than a few interesting quotes from his books.

I did however, not too long ago, listen to his Audio book of The God delusion, and quite enjoyed it. As an atheist I often think about faith and belief in God because it baffles me. And like most who do, I've come up with quite a few thoughts I've impressed myself with, but Dawkins gave me quite a few in a direction I'd never gone.

Like, as a general rule we're meant to be tolerant and respect other people's beliefs. No matter how ******ed or weird they may be, because it's their belief and we have no right to criticize it.

Dawkins asks, "Why?"

Y'know, that's a good question. Never thought about it before, just accepted the norm.

Agreed and that's why it's fair to question peoples belief if that belief system is a basis for their logic and rational thinking/thought process.
If someone thinks it's only logical to blow him/her self up for a religious cause because after he/she is dead he/she will go to heaven and get virgins and what not.

I believe it is just considered polite not offend a religious person, because no matter how odd their religious beliefs may seem, they take them very seriously and will be offended if you mock them. Now that there is a point where the desire to be polite ends, if zealots want to impose their beliefs on others and want us to stop teaching evolution or treat homosexuals as second class citizens that's a bit different from wanting to wear a silly hat in public.

I agree, there should be a good degree of tolerance. Both ways.
