Yeah gas is over $5 and food prices are even worse and he hasn’t used the power of his office to address it. People have lost 2 years or gains in the market. I’ll still vote for him but he’s toast at this point.

Presidents don’t set prices.

China and Russia are waging economic warfare against the world right now just like OPEC did in the 1970s.
It doesn't matter. He and the Dems are in power and they see this as a Democrat government which like the GOP warned higher prices. This is the narrative voters are seeing. Biden can blame Republicans but they'll see it as scapegoating like Trump.

Exactly. Of course the president doesn’t actually control these things. But image is everything and Biden is playing defense not offense. This worked on the campaign trail but not in office.

I don't blame him for all of it, but yeah, I'm hoping he doesn't try to run again. I'm positive he would lose and we'll end up with someone as bad as Trump. :(

WRT Oil prices and gas prices. Not so long ago, oil prices were about where they are now, but gas prices were much, much lower. What could have POSSIBLY changed? Oil company profits? Nahhhhhhh.......that couldn't be it. They're just doing what they can to survive. :o

It's true. But Biden can't really say that, can he? Because these are the people he works for. Who the majority of his party works for.

We can argue electoral strategy, but Biden playing the helpless buffoon with no power, is not a great look. Especially when he refuses to fight.

Biden already criticized the oil companies.

Biden slaps oil companies for profiteering at the pump.

The oil companies fund the Republicans way more than Democrats.

The oil companies are making record profits and not passing any relief onto customers.

EIA.gov - EIA expects high refinery margins to contribute to increasing fuel production this summer

main.svg

In our June 2022 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), we forecast that U.S. refinery utilization will be relatively high this summer in response to strong wholesale prices for petroleum products, such as diesel and gasoline, which have increased more than the price of the crude oil used to make them.

The price difference between the price of crude oil and the wholesale price of a refined petroleum product reflects the value of refining crude oil. This difference, known as the crack spread, can indicate refining margins and profitability. Crack spreads for both diesel and gasoline increased in the first several months of 2022.

Gasoline and diesel prices and crack spreads are well above historical averages in response to several factors including:

  • Low inventories for both petroleum products in the United States and globally
  • Fuel demand increases to near pre-pandemic levels
  • Relatively low refinery production of both fuels compared with pre-pandemic levels
  • Reduced petroleum product exports from Russia
In response to these high prices, we expect that refinery utilization will reach a monthly average level of 96% twice this summer, near the upper limits of what refiners can consistently maintain. We expect refinery utilization to average 96% in June, 94% in July, and 96% in August.

We estimate U.S. refinery inputs will average 16.7 million b/d during the second and third quarters of 2022. This average is lower than the 2019 refinery inputs average of 17.3 million b/d despite high utilization rates because of reductions in refinery capacity since early 2020. U.S. refinery capacity has fallen by almost 1.0 million b/d since early 2020 because several refineries were closed or converted.

chart2.svg

We expect wholesale prices for gasoline and diesel will begin decreasing in the third quarter of 2022, as refinery production increases. Despite our forecast price decline, we expect that wholesale fuel prices will remain well above previous years through the summer, based on higher crude oil prices as well as the ongoing impact of low global inventories. Low international inventories are likely to face additional tightness in response to the recently announced European ban on Russia's energy imports.

The country is on fire and the Biden administration's response is to... ban Juul. Just in case anyone suspected they might possibly be capable of learning from past mistakes.

My father and a bunch of other people I know uses a Juul so I'm sure this going to make them hate Biden more. It doesn't make me inclined to vote for them in the midterms either. I dont want to help the dems take away less dangerous nicotine devices. That will only increase tobacco use.

It was a decision long in the making after earlier steps.

Juul's checkered e-cigarette journey cut short by FDA ban
This is all so dumb on so many levels. It's purely a manufactured fight for the administration to run around and say they're doing something good when in fact no one cares and they're actually only making things worse. They already forced Juul into getting rid of flavors, which played a big role in driving the youth market to the cheap, disposable knock-offs that are almost certainly less safe. Banning Juul is going to have zero impact on tobacco use instead it will:

1) Drive older users back to cigarettes and even more younger users to disposables
2) Further open up the demand for black market products
3) Annoy young voters who Biden was already offering nothing to
