Columbia Pictures has acquired rights to remake the U.K. miniseries "Red Riding," and is negotiating with Steve Zaillian to write the script and Ridley Scott to direct, says Variety.

The project, based on four David Peace novels, will be distributed in the U.S. this fall by IFC. The studio has bought rights to the mini and the novel series.

The miniseries is a study of power and police corruption framed around the investigation of the disappearance of several young girls. For the film, the setting will be transferred from Britain to the U.S.

Scott and Zaillian previously collaborated on the films American Gangster and Hannibal.

Something else to add to the Ridley Scott directing pile. At the moment he is directing:

Red Riding
The Kind One
The Passage
Monopoly
Brave New World
Forever War
Alien Prequel

I think the original UK mini-series was very very good and don't really see any point in turning it into a film, especially when the location is going to changed to the US. That just destroys what was one of the best parts of the series - a gritty dark grim England of the 70's and 80's.

wow this is kind of random. The Mini Series was good though. The cast was amazing too Sean Bean, Mark Addy, Paddy Considine, Rebecca Hall, David Morissey and Andrew Garfield

The Ridley "To do" list continues to grow........
