RIP Michael Gough

RIP Micheal Gough

He was a great Alfred, he was the only actor who put in a good performance in Batman and Robin, and I think he was best in BF, the interactions between him and Grayson were great, as well as with Kilmer, but he was just as good in the first two really, just my personal pref.

Indeed, he played an impressive Alfred Pennyworth. He was sarcastic and challenging, but also like a father. He was exactly the Alfred that Batman needs, and often has in the comics.

Are we still mourning him? It's all about Michael Caine now!!! j/k

RIP Michael Caine... I mean... *gough* Gough *gough*.

What a horrible thing to write. Disgraceful.

Michael Gough was favorite live-action Alfred, without a doubt. He immersed himself in the role and became Alfred. Impeccably groomed with slicked hair, formally dressed. He had the high-class stiff-upper-lip English accent, the dry sarcasm, as well as the fatherly concerned for Bruce.

Michael Caine, on the other hand, just looks, acts and speaks like himself with his lower-class thick Cockney accent, "Nevah."

Yeah...putting "j/k" at the end of a poorly made statement, doesn't magically mean that your words are not offensive or in poor taste. It is sort of like saying, "I'm not racist, but...," which is usually the precursor to a racist comment. Was that kind of ignorance even necessary?

maybe he acts like a *****bag to cope with his greif... here's hoping i guess. R.I.P Michael Gough

My friends.... countrymen..... lovers, we have been griefed.

He'll always be Alfred to me R.I.P

Ya know, I've seen all those Batman flicks and I didn't realize (remember) that the Alfred from Batman was played by the same guy in all of them.

Even during the worst of the Bat-Movies, he gave his best. RIP.

R.I.P. Michael Gough. You'll be missed.

A class act.

Didn't care for his Alfred though.....

Alfred never would have ratted out Bruce and brought some chick to the Batcave.

You mean the way Michael Caine's Alfred let Lucius Fox into Bruce's bedroom... let him hide AND allowed Bruce to talk about the fear toxin in such a manner for Fox to hear and question?

:woot:

Alfred raised Bruce and has a fatherly concerned for Bruce. Alfred wanted Bruce to settle down happily with Vicki Vale and get married and stop grimly brooding over his parents murders and obsessing on avenging his parents by warring on crime for the rest of his life.

Alfred: I have no wish to spend my few remaining years grieving for the loss of old friends. Or their sons.
Miss Vale called. She was rather concerned. I feel that there's a certain weight that lifts when she is here.
Bruce: (sarcastically) Alfred...why don't you marry her?
Alfred: That's not exactly what I had in mind, sir.
Bruce: I can't think about that now.
Alfred: If not now, when?
Miss Vale called, again. Dare I suggest that your present course of action might simply strengthen her resolve. She is quite tenacious.
Bruce: You're right about that.
Alfred: And if I may say so, quite special. Perhaps you could try telling her the truth.

In Batman Returns, after Bruce and Vicki broke up, Alfred is trying to encourage Bruce to date...

Alfred: Why are you now determined to prove that this Penguin is not what he seems? Must you be the only lonely man-beast in town?
Shall we change the channel to a program with some dignity and class...The Love Connection, perhaps?

This fatherly concerned for Bruce and wanting Bruce to settle down happily with a nice woman and get married and have a family and stop grimly brooding is true to Alfred in the comics.

1. Fox already suspected. You honestly don't think Fox knew that was his "tumbler" on the news??? "Mister Wayne...all of this stuff is yours anyway."

2. That was a life or death situation with Bruce and that toxin. Far different than some hot chick he really didn't know that well.

Yes it was. Bruce was hurting her and himself immerse in his self-made creature. Alfrec gave him a chance to face his actions.

First of all things, when Luicius saw the news with the police chasding the Tumbler it was AFTER he was with Bruce in his bedroom.

But... did Alfred even know Luicius suspected something before allowing him to walk in his bedroom? And if so - which I don't think was the case - does that allow him to let Luicius closer to the truth?

That has nothing to do. Both Bale's and Keaton's Batman took the girl into the batcave. So what?
