didn't get a chance to see this yesterday once again. Defenitely tommorow though.

So, would you guys rate this as one of the best films of the summer?

I'll put it this way, I felt more emotional connection to a digital ape than any real human character so far this year. Everyone I've spoken to agrees that Caesar is worth the price of admission alone. Andy Serkis, you are the king of the digital character.

I believe that Ceasar started to talk as a result of his gradual development. He was raised among humans and even learnt to think like a human.

One problem I had with the film was that it never really shed a light on how the cure was developed and how it actually turned put to be a virus for us. I mean they could definetely include more science in a couple of scenes.

Certain charac6ters were also left underdevel;oped in my opinion. And, obviously I wasn't impressed by Franco's interaction with Ceasar in the end. He looks like "Oh well, ok then". There is no real conflict.

Finally, there were a few moments that would be doubtful in reality. For instance, Will and Frankling were testing Bright Eyes for a long period of time, at leats a few months. While testing, they were surely conducting analysis of her organism. So, how the heck they never really had a clue she was pregnant. I mean is it really possible among apes?

In conclusion, I'd say that the fil does a great job in exploring the journey of Ceasar and settinmg up a new continuity. However, most of the stuff with supporting characters and points could have been improved certainly.

Are some people aware that this is a franchise about Apes that can talk and dress/ live like humans, since the 1968 movie?

How can you complain they are able to talk now ?

I liked the movie on some level, but I don't think that it was fantastic or even good. If you watch it again most of it is extremely bland and most of the dialog is awful with the exception of those recycled lines from one of the old Apes movies. The cops are major cowards and are really pathetic, they lost and didn't even bother to go after the apes again and many of the apes came off as tools for the most part who did stuff just because Caesar wanted stuff to be done. I was expecting more from the movie and despite the great acting from key characters, I thought that it was pretty crappy, the movie is so thinly fresh and that isn't saying much if you evaluate it objectively. I really thought that the movie would have been better if the main characters weren't so bland, if some of the special effects didn't look funny, if the dialog was better, and if the non-main apes were more smarter. Oh and if the apes did more with the humans. I'm sorry but the acting, main plots, and some of the solid special effects isn't enough to cover up it's flaws. I never once felt that any of the apes were really smart after they were exposed to that stuff. So in conclusion, I will have to say that the movie is below mediocrity and is un-engaging overall and is a blight when it comes to movies that receive the cinematic treatment.

Oh, and the movie loses another point because I thought too many of the humans were idiots when it came to squaring off against the apes. One thing that I hate about the movie is that the apes don't look like they got shot after they got shot, all I saw on them was blood and zero punctured flesh. The movie got really shoddy thanks to the really serious sounding music imo, negative one again.

3.5/10

Didn't you also give Green Lantern 8 out 10? That movie was far worse in almost every way.

Agreed. Needless to say, it was only Caesar who actually spoke in the film. The day when all apes will evolve to be able to speak is yet to come in sequels, when new generation follows as a result of their parents being exposed to the cure.

Maybe Chris Nolan should work with Serkis, that would solve a lot of problems.

The movie is great, some are saying it's this years district 9(late summer sleeper hit). Which may be true but the films only flaw is how small it stayed until the scene post credits.

Note, everyone that's seen the movie, go back and watch the trailer again, lol what a different film they were selling.

Quick question. Is this movie a prequel or a reboot?

I'm not buying the fact that the movie has a budget of under $100 million.

It works for both, a prequel to the original first movie or a reboot.

Honestly i think it works better for a real prequel, since there are so many references of the original movie.

I love the originals, but this was surprisingly good. I was not even going to see it until I heard the buzz. They're obviously going to remake the original and I'm not completely against that.

Well, about the only things in this movie that were CG, at least to me, were the Apes themselves, parts of the the bridge scene, and a few other things here and there. And they filmed on actual locations and sets, for the most part, instead of CG-ing the heck out of everything.

I can totally buy that they filmed this for only $90 million.

The original series ended up having it's own prequels by the 3rd and 4th films (time loop paradox deal). The Apes rise in that story was a lot different.

So as this is a new story it's a reboot, though it does still work with the Heston original if you ignore all the sequels that one had.

I didn't realize the movie was made so "cheaply". Props to them. I hope the next one stays on a low budget.

That's not true. This movie still works even with the sequels. Just because they're alternate pasts doesn't mean both didn't happen.

For me it doesn't work with anything after the 2nd film from the originals. From Escape onwards the whole point is that the Apes would not have risen if the smart one's from the future had never gone back into the past and given birth to Caesar there.

So is the next one going to take place in the future with the guys returning from Mars ? Aka a Tim Burton type ending ?

Might be. I would guess if they go for the Astronauts return they might dispense with the illusion it's a different planet though (a bit pointless, and as Burton found out, you can't top the originals ending) and could set it not so far ahead in time. Maybe have it follow on closer to this one showing more of the Apes evolution and rise to dominance over the humans that survived the virus.

That's a really good opening especially when you take in the fact that it's budget is only $93 million and it was in 2D. Glad this movie did well, it really deserved it!

But they will want to keep the audience rooting for Caesar. I guess there could be an ape civil war & Caesar sides with the humans & with Wills help fixes things

Well...that ugly evil looking Chimp could well be trouble :cwink:

I am sure they will do something like with Caesar's blood & mix it with something else & make something to return the apes to normal in this franchise

Saw this last night. I f***ing loved it.

It was really great.

The only problem I had was James Franco and Freida Pinto. They didnt give terrible performances. But I felt that they were rather bland and their character weren't that that interesting.

But as I said I loved this. My favorite movie of the year by far. 8.5/10

What's the word on where, story wise, they would want to go for a potential sequel.
