Rivers Cuomo Says Weezer Is 'Done'

The only true people that have not sold out are bums. They wasted their education, if any, and will be damned if they work for the man. :o Entreprenuers, the lot of them.

EXACTLY!

I always think of that Dave Chapelle skit everytime people start saying "Oh, he sold out, blah blah blah".

Well, basically the skit is about "keeping it real". It's some funny stuff. :)

What the hell is up with bands breaking up all of a sudden. Sheesh.

They were a really good band, in my opinion. I own Weezer (Blue) and Pinkerton in my CD collection and both get listened to regularly. It's ashame that they've called it quits "for now".

And what is up with all this "selling out" garbage?

The second you form a band, have a show, and charge people money to SEE your show, you're selling out. Because if you truly don't want to be a "sell out" you'd not charge people money to see you play music if that's what you loved to do so much.

But seeing that the almighty dollar makes everybody's head spin, even average joe schmoe who would eat dog crap off the ground for a million dollars....are sell outs.

Everyone in this thread is a sell out. If you've ever gotten a full time job, you've just sold yourself old to some company. We're all sell outs, so lets stop pointing fingers at guys who can make good music and make money off of it. :)

You sold out by making this post. :(

LOL, if you're actually posting on this board, you've already sold out. You got the money to buy a PC, or you're using one someplace that required a payment in the past.

Dont people get it? Being a sell out is the whole reason to become a celebrity. If people have heard of you, you're definitely a sell out.

I would totally be a sell-out if i ever got the chance. not for myself but to reason better everyone in my family.

You can be sucessfull without selling out.

it is quite annoying when people whine about their pet projects selling out or becoming popular.

Most of the time, these bands do want a large group of people to listen to their music. If they didnt, they wouldnt make this their entire career. They'd get other jobs, and just play music on the side.

"Selling out is a common slang phrase. Broadly speaking, it refers to the compromising of one's integrity, morality and principles in exchange for money, success or other personal gain. It is commonly associated with attempts to increase mass appeal or acceptability to mainstream society. A person who does this is labelled a sellout. Selling out may be seen as gaining success at the cost of credibility. Though generally associated with the entertainment industry, regular individuals who similarly compromise their ideals (e.g. a Bohemian individual who suddenly switches to a socially conservative lifestyle) could also be considered sellouts"

There that is selling out, it's not cool.

Back on the topic of Cuomo himself, his wife, Kyoko Ito. You can't make up names like that. About half of his songs basically alluded to his ultimate marriage of the ultimate japanese girl. Kyoko Ito is the most Japanese-y name ever.

They are the same band, as people. Their music has evolved greatly. Listen to their first single, and then their most recent L. Wells. Tell me there's no evolution.
same guitar sounds, same type of chord changes, same attitude, same themes, same album cover...

The Strokes had a similar slump, so worry not
