Robert Downey Jr. Is Doom - "Same task, new mask"

I bought a hoody a while back that had Dr Doom on it, but I may retire it now cause I don't want to discuss RDJ with people when I am out and about. So to the closet it goes

At least there'll be a villain that doesn't die after one movie. :o

But yeah, they'll need to do an absolutely amazing job for this to win me over.

"This is the problem with the "multi-verse", they can make anything and everything happen. Thus, there are no stakes, and nothing is permanent if they don't want it to be "

How are they to expect the fans and general audience to emotional invest in these characters when they keep doing this ****e. When the " multi-verse " magic begins to glimmers into darkness 8 times out 10 your left with a hollow movie experience and thats where were heading for the foreseeable future.

Still processing this casting decision and it just doesn't make ****ing sense. Alot of people seing RD dying as Iron Man was instilled into alot of people. For some it was a end of era and was handled with such TLC that its still alot of people's favourite MCU film...Now that sorrow and tears have been nothing, it wasn't a end of a era it was massive **** you to iron man and his fans basically saying " guess what peeps, we brought him back ta daahhhh, buttt not as Iron Man but ****ing Doom "

I can't imagine how Iron man and Doom fans feel, i really can't. Absolute bull****.

I dont think Iron Man fans probably care. They got Iron Man and he was aces for years! Doom fans though...no character has been botched more

If Marvel were going to reuse an actor from before, they should've used Mads Mikelsen even though they've used him before in Dr Strange.
Someone like Mads who had a one off forgettable role, that would have been fine. But that's not what Marvel wants. They WANT people to connect Doom to Stark. It's 10000% intentional

I dont see us being able to change the main event like what happened in the WWE with the Wrestlemania 40 main event.

OMG, RDJ IS TOTALLY THE ROCK IN THIS ANALOGY!!!!!

The only way that would work is that if Marvel fans were emotionally invested in the current story like WWE fans were with Cody Rhodes chasing the WWE title and "finishing the story". Here its the exact opposite. They are pivoting to this because the fans WEREN'T invested in the original direction.

I love RDJ & all but I don't like the casting, as several of you have all said, it just reeks of desperation from Marvel & at a wild guess, likely at the cost of seeing one of the best villains Marvel has in their back pocket in his full glory.

I say that because even things as simple as his appearance, if you're bringing RDJ back into the fold, you can almost guarantee he'll be seen constantly maskless & scarless otherwise what's really the point? There's likely going to have encounters with characters that knew Tony so there will be no doubt a bunch of spiel about how they look similar. That's also assuming that this isn't some sort of Tony Stark variant from the multiverse, which is another reason not to like the multiverse, at least for me.

With that all being said, it could be an absolute master stroke casting. I'm sure RDJ's got the acting chops to pull of a very good VVD, the biggest obstacle is the fact he's already got such strong ties within the MCU as Tony Stark/Iron Man. They need to keep him unrecognisable IMO, have him attached in name only, rarely seen maskless & when he is, heavy scarring, accent, the whole thing.

But overall, not really a fan of the casting, would have preferred someone fresh & new to the MCU to take the role.

I actually really like Jack Kirby's original idea of Doom only having a tiny facial scar but because his face is not 100% perfect he won't let anyone see it. Psychologically It's more interesting than him looking grotesque. But you'd still have to have him wear a mask throughout the entire thing for it to work and I also don't see that happening with RDJ.

I think at this point I would've preferred Julian McMahon or Toby Kebbell.
That would've been interesting, I think. There aren't enough people in the world who watched Runaways to know he was on that and would think he was making his triumphant return to the world of Marvel if that happened, I bet.

Some people have suggested that we'll get another Doom later down the line but how do you follow up RDJ just a few years later? The performance will no doubt be iconic and it will define the character for a generation of moviegoers. Now imagine asking any actor worth their salt to play the "real" Doom in the FF sequel.
The switcheroo could happen before Secret Wars.

After this casting, no one can ever say ABC actor can't be used because they were already in the MCU.

As of right now, and this is just my personal opinion, I don't like the casting. It feels ultra desperate on Marvel's part. Moves made out of desperation are never good.

I'm also getting sick of the over-reliance on Multiverse shenanigans like this.

IMHO what built the MCU before was seeing the MCU iterations of these characters. Not all these convenient interdimensional Multiverse things. Why shouldn't the MCU have its own X-Men, Doctor Doom, Fantastic Four etc? I don't like that they are coming from other universes.

It ain't. They ain't pushing this casting only for there to be yet another Doom that will be the villain of that. If there was another Doom coming, they would have announced THEM! Not to mention at concept, it is needlessly complicated to build a movie around RDJ as Doom....only to then have him lose in favor of a LESS developed variant. This. Isn't. Happening

This is the problem with Marvel Studios wasting so many good actors in pointless throwaway roles, ie Mads Mikkelsen as Kaecilius, Emilia Clarke in Secret Invasion, and the list goes on and on.

Being creatively bankruptcy isn't a risk, lol! Your casual movie goer isn't going to care that they did the least interesting version of Doctor Doom that we could have gotten. All they will see is RDJ's name on a poster. It's laughably risk adverse
It's not risky but the fanbase is divided over it?

Wouldn't a safe bet be to do normal Doom instead of Iron Doom?

Why would they announce the real Doom now? That's like giving away the ending to Infinity War.

Iron Doom's successor won't be a variant. He'll be the 616 Doom.

Is this a trick question? Because they want nerds to make videos about it and hype the movie up. There isn't a successor coming. If you think there is, you're delusional

The real Doom is coming...

This reeks of desperation to get RDJ back. I get there is precedent from a previous comic arc, but I feel like they've screwed over the Von Doom character just to find an angle that works for them. So much history thrown out, just to cram RDJ back into the MCU.
