I couldn't decide whether to put this in Books & Music or Celebrities, I chose to put it here but if a mod sees fit to move it or merge it with another thread please go ahead.

'Twilight' actor Robert Pattinson to play Kurt Cobain in Hollywood biopic
The Twilight star is said to have always thought of himself as a musician rather than an actor so securing a part playing the Nirvana lead singer, who shot himself in 1994, is ideal for him, The Sun reports.

Pattinson, 23, has been in regular contact with Cobain’s widow Courtney Love, who has been handed a key role in the production by bosses at Universal Pictures.

The singer wanted Pattinson as Cobain and Scarlett Johansson, 25, to portray her.

A source said: "This is a big money deal for Courtney.

"She has agreed to the film on condition that she gets to decide the main aspects of the project including director, casting, screenplay and music."Robert has been calling and emailing her non-stop. She has been a bit wound up by his manners, but he is her number one choice to play Kurt.
"She is adamant Scarlett will play her. Scarlett is friendly with Frances Bean, her daughter with Kurt."

Love, 45, has been in touch with director David Fincher about the project, which has the working title All Apologies.

He was behind Fight Club, Se7en and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

It's not the first time a studio have tried to make a film about Nirvana, who had hits with Come As You Are and Smells Like Teen Spirit.

A few years ago Sony Pictures were disapproved by Love when they floated the idea of High School Musical actor Zac Efron, 22, as Cobain, while Frances Bean, 17, would play her mum.
My first reaction was something like OMFGWTFBBQ, but after bothering to look up some pictures of Pattinson where he's not covered in vampire glitter I guess I can kind of see a resemblance.

Also why am I not surprised that Courtney Love has insisted on having her hands all over this project? She should have some input but it sounds to me like she's making all of the decisions in the production of this movie which doesn't give me much hope that this movie (assuming it actually gets made) will be a faithful tribute to Kurt or the band. I'll keep my fingers crossed I guess.

I have only seen the guy in the Harry Potter flick he was in, so can't really judge him off that, but from reports on his latest flicks, apparently the he can act well, and that is all that matters, who cares what successful franchise he has been in that has been deemed 'uncool' by a lot of hipsters.

This is all still up in the air anyway, your thread title suggests the guy has signed on the dotted line, they don't even have a director yet, never mind anything else. Courtney Love is so flakey that she can just as easily drop someone like a hot potato, as suck up to the latest, so I wouldn't put that much stock into who she wants right now.

Courtney Love is on drugs, why do people listen to her?

She might have problems, but from all reports and some interviews i have watched with her, she is very savvy, intelligent person, so she will have her lucid moments/days/weeks/months of intelligent decisions and inspirations.

If you are going to dismiss an artist because of their personality and/or drug use, you would be as well to throw out most of your good records and movies, but then again, you were the guy whose only nomination for 'album of the decade' was a Weird Al Yankovich record, so you may be consistent with that approach.

I hope this is a late April fool's joke. . .

That says it all. What's next? A PG-13 rating so the female Twilight fans can watch the film = more money?

Geez. . .

I always thought Ewan McGregor looked like Kurt Cobain. A lot more than Pattinson, anyway.

haha now he is gonna have a load of obsessed Nirvana fans stalking him and asking him to suck their blood.

What a waste.

Why not get Taylor Lautner to play Jim Morrison?

What's so damned hard about playing Kurt Cobain anyway?

Well he is a deep, thoughtful, multi faceted poet of the modern era.

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I wouldn't give any of those actors in Twilight a job anywhere. Apart from Pattison they are all utterly shoite.

Well I suppose Stewart was good in Adventureland.

What's so damned hard about playing Kurt Cobain anyway?
Why get an actor who symbolizes the mindless popularity Cobain rallied against?

and Cobain was tormented and conflicted, Not the easiest musician to portray.

Nirvana cds are gonna fly off the shelf like crazy....

That's not the point.

You wouldn't get the werewolf guy from twilight to play Jim Morrison in the first place.

I don't know about any werewolf guy from Twilight, but when it comes to unexpected people knocking a role out of the park, who would have thought the guy from Top gun/Top Secret/Willow would make a perfect Morrison?
This is in fact what the drummer from the Doors said when Kilmer was cast... 'The blonde guy from Willow?!" But then, if someone truly is an actor, they can transform for the role.

Who would have thought Gary Busey would make a great Buddy Holly? Yet, he also knocked it out.

Nirvana cds are gonna fly off the shelf like crazy....

I am pretty sure Nirvana have already outsold Gnarls Barkly, although I am not sure about Patsy Cline. and as the drummer from my comedy backing band actually said...Ba-doom-tish!

Michael Pitt already played a pseudo version of Kurt Cobain in Last Days.

Looks like Pattinson's following his gf Kristen Stewart's footstep by playing a real rock star on the big screen. I hope he will do it justice, but right now I'll reserve my judgement because it will be tough to play Cobain imo. I wonder who will play Dave Grohl?

Pattinson seems like a good actor. I think he's kind of unfairly maligned because of his association with Twilight, which I've never seen, but from what I see of him elsewhere he seems cool. Most actors started out doing crap when they were younger.
